Full-Time Technical Director

POSITION STATUS: Regular / Full-time / Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Production
NORMAL HOURS: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Typical work week is 37.5 hours. Duties will require evening and weekend hours during performances and related events.
The Technical Director coordinates work and schedules with production staff, designers, theater staff and other departments as related to Opera productions and Broadway presentations, as well as other company events, and assists the Director of Production with current and future season planning and administration.
The Technical Director is responsible for planning and supervision of technical production activities and personnel in the following areas:
- Technical production administration & planning
- Technical design & direction
- Cost management and budget assistance
- Operations management
- Broadway series technical operations oversight
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyzes and implements technical aspects of productions
- Creates technical drawings
- Oversees load-in, load-out and all technical activities in the theater
- Supervises technical staff, including IATSE crew
- Prepares budgets and forecasts for technical aspects of productions, including labor
- Participates in the presentation of Broadway series, ensuring local requirements are met

Ideal candidates have 3 or more years of professional experience as a technical director or assistant (opera preferred but not required), ability to manage multiple projects, strong management and organizational skills, experience with IATSE union crews, proficiency in Vectorworks or AutoCAD, knowledge of theatrical techniques including theatrical lighting and rigging, ability to adhere to budget and rigorous time schedule, amenable to fluctuating work schedule including extensive overtime during production, ability to carry 50 pounds and climb/work from ladders.
