Strategic Focus
As the Development Manager, you will support the larger strategic philanthropic goals of the organization through your management of donor and member relationships, event coordination, grant application oversight, and overall leadership.

Responsibilities
Relationship Management
- Liaise with the board of directors to keep them apprised of the needs and opportunities at the organization
- Maintain–and develop–relationships with individual donors across the community
- Alongside the Executive Director, develop and execute fundraising appeals
- Identify strategic partnerships with corporate and nonprofit partners invested in the mission of the organization
- Oversee the maintenance, and expansion, of our membership base
Grant Management
- Oversee the maintenance of the grant calendar for the organization
- Submit applications for funding on behalf of the organization while serving as the main point of contact for funder questions
- Coordinate site visits with grantors
- Ensure timely and excellent submissions of grant proposals directly and/or through the oversight of contracted grant writers
- Work with staff and board to identify funders across corporate, philanthropic, and government agencies
Event Management
- Produce the Annual Meeting and annual fundraiser
- Coordinate donor gatherings throughout the year such as dinners, coffee hours, and artist drop-ins
Who We Need
You are an ambitious and curious learner, driven by a strong set of core values and a desire to build alongside community members. You are a relational (not transactional) builder of partnerships, excited by the opportunity to build a wide array of enthusiasts committed to arts + culture in our region. You appreciate good storytelling and strive to stay informed about the goings on in your local environment. Whether you have a creative practice or not, you believe in the fundamental human right to support those who reflect truth and the human experience through art and cultural experience. Throughout your career, you have developed an openness to critical thinking and personal accountability that allows you to maintain a growth mindset.
Ideally, you have experience:
- Soliciting donations for a nonprofit
- Building long-term relationships with stakeholders (especially in Greater New Haven)
- Producing events for both large (200+) and small audiences
- Supporting creatives in the execution of their work
- Writing grants or appeals for support
- Speaking to a vast array of stakeholders
- Advocating for support on behalf of a cause you believe in
- Using a CRM database
- Working in a hybrid environment
