Summary
Hello!
I am an interdisciplinary artist whose roots began in Classical Ballet. I have had long careers as a dancer, choreographer, director, actor and educator. Dance for me became a meditation and Ballet specifically has become a beautiful metaphor for the journey of creating freedom within difficult structures. As a dancer, I have had the good fortune to work for choreographers like Jerome Robbins, Patricia Birch, Alan Johnson and Wayne Cilento. As an actor I have performed on stage and in television opposite Burt Reynolds, Gary Sinise, John Hamm, Billy Bob Thornton, Juliette Lewis, Jean Smart and Tony award winning John Glover. As a writer/creator, my solo show ‘Motion Cures’ was chosen twice as ‘The Best of The Fest’ for the Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival. Concurrently, I have also spent the last 20 years readying the next generation of young artists across many disciplines, for the professional world. What makes my teaching unique is the inclusion of somatics and mental picture imagery that liberates the body, and technique, while making space for artistry and ease. Western Centric Classical Dance disciplines create perfectionism and with that comes anxiety, negativity towards self, overthinking and defeatism. One of my goals has been to create freedom and tranquility in the classroom so that young artists can relax mentally and physically in order to attain these difficult physical expectations. I am also hyper aware of the lack of inclusivity and hierarchy that still remains in the classroom and professional industry. It keeps young artists from developing the agency that supports the calm that is necessary to reach one’s physical potential and authentic artistic expression. The need to create those classical pictures and pathways for myself resulted in a methodology that made me a dancer and now serves ALL bodies in a healthy and mindful practice!
My experience as an actor has also found its way into the facilitation of young artists by way of attention to narrative, particularly in performance as a learning tool to create detailed choices that liberate a performer within the performance; but also illuminates the artist as to who they are when the curtain comes down. There is something about that white hot light that uncovers truth in the moment. It clarifies thought and simplifies the doing. I believe in that kind of simplicity in art.
I am a technician, but only in the service of creating freedom. LLS My own creation process in dance, solo show work and countless direction of BFA stage productions has also created a channel for mentoring student driven work across many performing arts disciplines from conception through full production. It has been the joy of my life to be in the classroom and rehearsal space with the next generation and I am hoping to expand those rooms. I am sending my CV, and letters of recommendation along with samples of my work via my website https://www.motioncures.com/ I am hoping I may be a good fit for your dance or acting programs (or both), and /or any guest artist opportunities that may arise. Thank you in advance, Tracy Silver 323-243-0701
