Arts Education and Cultural Leadership

Dr. Allison Upshaw holds the position of Associate Professor of Music at Stillman College She is a trained opera singer, a professional actress, dancer, and playwright. Over the years, she has held positions as a diversity trainer, a college counselor, a Black cultural center director, and even a professional poetry performer. For almost 20 years, Dr. Upshaw has provided curriculum design (including STEAM) and diversity programming for educational systems and arts organizations. Allison has a B.M. in voice performance from Oberlin Conservatory and an M.M. in voice performance from Louisiana State University. Her doctorate is in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Alabama. She is also a former Fulbright Specialist, a board member of the Association of Interdisciplinary Studies, and the President of the Alabama Conference of Theatre.
