Executive Director

The 500 Capp Street Foundation

The 500 Capp Street Foundation honors David Ireland’s legacy by providing visitors the opportunity to experience his home and masterpiece, as well as his extant body of work. In the spirit of Ireland, who actively curated the house and frequently opened it to visitors, the foundation offers artist-led public tours, presents exhibitions, programs, and events at The David Ireland House at 500 Capp Street. In addition, it hosts visiting artists, curators, and scholars from around the world.

Governance

  • Keeps the Chair of the Board fully apprised of all activities through regular assessments, reports, and meetings
  • Works closely with the Chair of the Board regarding financial matters, fundraising, and policy matters
  • Work with Chair of the Board and Head Curator to design a 3-5-year strategic plan
  • Attends all Board of Trustee meetings and provides updates of all activities

Curatorial Program and Collection

  • Works closely with Head Curator to oversee the curatorial program, special programs and events, and collection management
  • Works with curators to create documentation of exhibitions and programs
  • Commissions essays relating to 500 Capp Street exhibitions

Development

  • Works with Chair of the Board to secure fundraising goals through cultivation of individual donors and grant-making organizations, and developing ideas for fundraising events
  • Ensures proper and ongoing donor stewardship

Community Relations

  • Oversees visitor services
  • Develops partnerships with other local and national non-profit cultural institutions
  • Works with staff to plan, guide, and support communications activities to engage specific audiences (for example: students and neighborhood residents)

Advertising and Marketing

  • Works with staff and Board of Trustees to develop and advertising and marketing strategy

Communications

  • Oversees the Communications Manager activities, including media relations, managing the website, advertising, and social media on a variety of platforms

Staff Management

  • Manages full-time and part-time staff, outside vendors and contractors, and volunteers
  • Yearly evaluation of permanent staff

Budget

  • Works with Board of Trustees to develop and manage annual budgets
  • Ensures adherence to budgets by reviewing monthly expense reports and exhibition budgets

Membership

  • Works with Visitor Services Manager to development membership program and once instituted develops strategies to recruit and retain members

Education

  • Works to create an education program with Bay Area middle and high schools

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • 3-5 years-experience working in an art institution
  • Minimum 5 years working in a non-profit organization; familiarity with non-profit regulations and best practices
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of visual, performing, literary, and media arts
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, energetic, and highly organized
  • Demonstrated ability to plan for and meet deadlines
  • Experienced and skilled writer and visual content editor, with strong research skills
  • Experience in fundraising
  • Experience hiring and directing vendors, support staff, and volunteers
  • Experience in media relations, both working with journalists and media outlets.

 

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
