Tulsa Ballet is actively searching for a Director of Production to support the artistic operations of the company.
About the company:
Tulsa Ballet is one of the oldest ballet companies in the United States of America. Founded by Moscelyne Larkin and Roman Jasinski in 1956, the company celebrated its 65th anniversary last season. The company has been artistically led by Marcello Angelini since 1995, progressing from a well-respected regional ballet company to an arts institution named, by the national and international critics “…one of the top ten ballet companies in the US”, “…one of the five most significant ballet companies in the US” and “…one of the best in the world”. The company operates on a $7.3 million annual budget, has over $35 million in assets/endowments, owns its two building and two theaters and has over $1 million in cash reserves.
Tulsa Ballet presents six production a year, the first one of the season in its own Studio K theater, a $6.5 million, 300 seats proper theater built in 2008 for the express purpose of creating new work. Following this program, there will be four main stage productions at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, a 2400 seats auditorium downtown Tulsa. The last production of the year takes place at the Lorton Performance Center, a 700 seats house perfectly suited for smaller scale productions.
The company produces all the classics of the 19th century and the works of the top dance makers of the 20th and 21st century. Four of its seasonal productions are full evening, story ballets, the other two triple bills. Prior to the pandemic, the company toured extensively in Europe (Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Serbia, Croatia, Portugal) and the far East (South Korea).
The Director of Production is a partner to the Artistic Director in the success of its productions.
Ballet’s Director of Production’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- All production aspects for the Company (including Tulsa Ballet Center for Dance Education), which includes contracts for sets and costumes for each production, shipping arrangements, etc.
- Stage management for all productions both in home city and on tour, nationally and internationally.
- Making sure temperatures on stage are within a 72/76 degrees Fahrenheit when company on stage.
- Budgeting for future productions/ season and tracking costs for each production during the season.
- Establishing production schedules for all performances for both home city and on tour, nationally and internationally.
- Coordinating company tour dates (including regional educational programs) with Company Artistic staff.
- Hiring and supervision of crews, including IATSE crews for Performing Arts Center performances.
- Supervising IATSE crews and part time production staff.
- Overseeing technical and maintenance requirements and upkeep of facility including, but not limited to, studio temperatures, Marley maintenance, floor maintenance, audio equipment maintenance and lighting equipment maintenance.
- Negotiation and issuance of contracts for rental of sets and costumes for company’s productions.
- Arrangement of transportation from rental source to Tulsa and from warehouse to Performing Arts Center.
- Warehouse maintenance and organization.
- Negotiation of contracts with Lighting Designers chosen by Artistic Director.
- Arrangement of rights and royalties payments for production designers.
- Working with Performing Arts Center to organize TB visits.
- Ordering supplies needed for each production.
- Arrangement of all technical information for company tours, both nationally and internationally.
- Arrangement of shipment of sets/costumes/props for international touring, including carne and insurance for all items to be shipped.
- Creation of ground and hanging plans and understanding of lighting plans for all TB productions.
- Attending rehearsals before productions.
- Supervision of all rehearsals and performances in Studio K.
- Supervision of all technical aspects of Studio K.
- Other duties as assigned by Artistic Director.
Salary range: $70,000-75,000
