Job Description

Position Summary

As UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance prepares to open a new venue, the UCLA Nimoy Theater, the Assistant Director of Development (ADoD) will lead the effort to engage members and individual donors in the exciting next chapter of CAP UCLA and the storied history of performing arts at UCLA.

Reporting to the Director of Development, the ADoD will be a frontline position, responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive fundraising and donor engagement strategy for CAP UCLA’s members and individual donors through to the opening celebration of The Nimoy, slated for May 2023.

 

Primary Responsibilities

The ADoD has four major responsibilities: 1) conceptualize and manages projects, events and programs that deepen member and donor connection to CAP UCLA; 2) manage a portfolio of individual donors members and volunteers with annual giving capacity between $1,000 and $10,000; 3) work with Director of Development, the CAP UCLA marketing team, key donors, School of the Arts and Architecture colleagues, and campus External Affairs colleagues to build the fundraising capacity of CAP; and 4) oversees CAP UCLA’s membership programs and create strategies for its growth and evolution in anticipation of the opening of The Nimoy.

CAP UCLA’s current fundraising efforts include annual and membership support from individuals, foundations and government agencies, as well as a capital campaign to fund a new facility, The UCLA Nimoy Theater in Westwood Village. The ideal candidate will be experienced in donor relations, event planning and membership program management (including creating new and innovative strategies to grow and enhance membership) as well as organized, creative and a nimble communicator.

 

Qualifications

  • Two years minimum experience in customer service/donor stewardship for a performing arts organization.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of development in a major research university or performing arts organization with emphasis on individual giving and/or membership programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and poise in dealing with deans, faculty members, students, administrators, community leaders, volunteers, and donors.
  • Skill in planning and implementing a comprehensive individual giving program.
  • Ability and willingness to work weekends and evenings as required for special events and to supervise donor lounge.
  • Excellent command of written English to produce professional, clear, compelling proposals, correspondence, reports, and other development materials.
  • Skill in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and database programs.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines in a self-directed, prioritized manner, and flexibility to meet changing needs and priorities as they occur.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with in-house staff and campus colleagues and to work graciously with donors.
  • Ability to effectively work with all development staff members and supervise casual staff and/or volunteers.
  • Ability to work independently and to initiate projects to further the overall fundraising effort.
  • Skill in developing, monitoring, and reconciling budgets; produce and analyze reports.
  • Two years experience in development is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
