Art Handler / Driver

Bonsai Fine Arts Services is seeking an experienced Art Handler/Driver to join our full-time team.

Bonsai is a museum services company specializing in collections relocations, consolidations, dispersals, transportation, and special projects for cultural institutions. While our work covers many aspects of art handling, transportation is at the center of what we do.

We are looking for experienced art handlers who are comfortable driving 16’–26′ box trucks and interested in becoming part of a small, professional team.

This is a full-time position only. We are not currently seeking freelance or on-call handlers.

Schedule

• Typical local workdays run approximately 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Occasional longer days depending on project requirements
• One to two overnight trips per month, generally lasting one or two nights
• Travel primarily throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions

Responsibilities

• Safely operate 26′ box trucks throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions
• Transport artwork and museum collections for institutional clients
• Pack, unpack, and move artwork using proper handling techniques
• Assist with installations, deinstallations, and collection relocations
• Complete condition reports and project documentation as required
• Work directly with museum staff, registrars, curators, and clients
• Assist with loading, securing, and protecting artwork during transit
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections and maintain safe operating practices
• Maintain vehicles, equipment, and work areas in an organized manner

Qualifications

• Previous professional art handling experience required
• Experience driving 26′ box trucks strongly preferred
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
• DOT medical card, or the ability to obtain one
• Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) is a plus
• Ability to safely lift and move artwork
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Comfortable working independently and taking responsibility for projects
• Willingness to travel overnight when necessary

The ideal candidate enjoys both the physical and logistical aspects of art handling. Because transportation is central to our business, applicants with substantial driving experience are especially encouraged to apply.
