The Grace Milliman Pollock Performing Arts Center operates to carry out Grace Pollock’s vision to “provide an attractive and functional venue for young children as well and people of all ages to enjoy the beauty of the arts and music on into the future” to be used “primarily for Camp Hill students and community residents alike.”
The Camp Hill School District is seeking candidates for a full-time Technical Director position at the Pollock Center to oversee and carry out the daily technical operations, including lighting, sound, set design, set construction, projects, and video and support the school district functions and activities that take place at the venue. The position is responsible for engaging students in the tech and stage support areas of the theater and helps to foster their love of the arts.

Job Summary:
Oversees and carries out the daily technical operations of The Pollock Center, including lighting, sound, set construction, projection, and video under the oversight of the Director of The Pollock Center and supports school district functions and activities that take place in the venue. Engages students in the tech and stage support areas of theater and fosters their love of the arts.
Essential Functions:
- Works with the Director of the Pollock Center and show directors to determine necessary technical supports such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs necessary for events and performances in advance of production dates.
- Designs, supervises, and assists with set construction and management within designated production schedules, budget limitations, and safety requirements; researches and recommends design elements, approaches, and aesthetics to ensure accuracy to the artistic vision and technical cost and feasibility; utilizes design software where appropriate to ensure structural integrity and stability of set pieces.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the use of hand and power tools and oversees their use; maintains a safe, clean, and orderly prop shop.
- Recruits, oversees, and mentors student volunteers and interns in the areas of lighting, sound, and set planning and construction and works with District Career Coordinator to establish internships in the areas of theater technology and/or set construction where appropriate.
- Monitors the condition of theater equipment, including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; works with the CHSD Director of Buildings and Grounds to make required service calls for repair or complete preventative maintenance on equipment in-house.
- Prepares for and participates in annual safety, insurance, and stage rigging inspections with support of the CHSD Director of Buildings and Grounds.
- Oversees sound and lighting board operation during performances and rental events and ensures smooth operations of the technical aspects for all productions.
- Plans for, oversees, and assists in timely set strike following completion of shows.
- Develops, implements, and monitors policies to ensure a safe work and performance environment; communicates safety needs to the Director of the Pollock Center and the CHSD Director of Buildings and Grounds.
- Organizes and maintains safe and secure storage areas, both on- and off-site, for stock scenic elements and props.
- Attends all required production meetings.
- In conjunction with other Pollock Center and District fine arts and administrative staff, develops yearlong production calendar detailing rehearsals, materials acquisition, set build, tech, strike, and other related production tasks.
- Provides oversight of the building after normal hours of operation, during assigned productions and rental events.
- In coordination with Pollock Center staff and the CHSD Director of Business and Operations, ensures that all purchase documentation is submitted and documented according to District policy.
- Coordinates with District administrators to determine technical needs for school district functions and events in the Pollock Center and provides technical support for all activities, including, but not limited to, special events, assemblies, convocations, etc.; collaborates with colleagues and students to resolve scheduling conflicts.
- In conjunction with the CHSD Director of Buildings & Grounds and CHSD Director of Technology, monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment.
- Assists the Director of The Pollock Center in preparing annual and individual performance budgets; advises on the anticipated costs for technical and set production.
- Recruits and oversees technical theater contracted/stipend positions as required to support productions.
- Creates and maintains equipment inventories with input from CHSD Director of Technology and CHSD Director of Buildings and Grounds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Works extended hours as needed to support evening and weekend events.
- Assists Pollock Center Director, CHSD Director of Buildings and Grounds, and CHSD Director of Technology to prepare long-term replacement schedules and make recommendations for bid specifications for new purchases.
- Participates in required school district professional development and training.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and previous experience in technical theater. Previous experience in school performing arts desired. Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, organizational and planning skills.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, sitting, standing, lifting, bending, climbing, and/or walking. Person must be able to communicate verbally and to hear with no more than 40-decibel hearing loss. Vision clarity of near, far and mid-range (less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet) is needed. Depth perception and ability to identify colors is recommended.
