About the Community and Theater
Klamath Falls, the county-seat in Klamath County, is nestled where the high desert meets the Cascades along the Oregon-California border and has a rich cultural heritage. The only year-round, multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary arts center in an area larger than either the states of Connecticut or Delaware, the Ross Ragland Theater annually serves over 40,000 residents and visitors. The Ragland is the only professionally-staffed, performing arts center in south central Oregon. Outside of producing and presenting its own programs it is also a community center that annually hosts over 400 arts, cultural and community activities and events. Built in 1940 and formerly known as the art deco-styled Esquire movie theater, the RRT re-invigorated the community’s interest in the performing arts when it opened in 1989. The Ross Ragland now boasts over 740 seats, state of the art sound and lights and a Cultural Center with the capacity to seat up to 240 people.
The Ross Ragland Theater (RRT) provides world-class performing arts and educational experiences that enhance community life in the Klamath Basin. As both a presenting and producing organization, RRT: 1) presents national and international touring artists to the community through its mainstage series 2) produces performances featuring local talent in its auditorium (740+ seats) and Cultural Center studio space 3) partners with other community groups for cultural and economic development and 4) offers comprehensive arts education programs for Pre-K through 12th grade, providing over 20,000 contact experiences for children in the Klamath Basin.
The Executive Director is charged with overseeing all operations of the Theater. Supported by a dedicated eight-member staff, the Director acts as liaison to the board, supervises financial and fundraising systems and officially represents the Theater to the community.
Board Administration and Support
Supports operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff, and supporting Board’s evaluation of chief executive. He or she also advocates/promotes organization and stakeholder change related to organization mission. Actively involved in board recruitment, the Executive Director participates in orientation and overall board support.
Program, Product and Service Delivery
Oversees design, marketing, promotion, procurement and quality of performances and programs, products and services in partnership with staff. Formulates policies and planning recommendations to the Board for new programs and products as needed. Decides or guides courses of action in program operations by staff. Thinks strategically in evaluating programs for planning and development purposes that support the mission of the Ross Ragland Theater.
Financial and Facilities Management
Develops/recommends annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages organization’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations. Ensures all necessary legal forms, reports and other other government work is completed in a timely and efficient manner. Works with Facilities Director to address facility needs including maintenance, repairs and new physical plant developments.
Human Resource Management
Effectively manages the human resources of the organization according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations. Ensures staff and Board have sufficient and up-to-date information to efficiently and effectively conduct their respective tasks and positively interacts with the Ross Ragland Theater Volunteer Guild. Looks to the future for change opportunities in both staffing and programs. The Executive Director is the primary interface between Board and Theater employees.
Community and Public Relations
Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders. This position is a critical and high-profile position in both the local community and the state arts scene. As the spokesperson for the Ross Ragland Theater, the Executive Director will manage processes and systems to ensure a positive reputation in the community.
Fundraising and Resource Development
This position will oversee fundraising planning and implementation, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals and administrating fundraising records and documentation as appropriate or needed. With the assistance of the board, staff and contractors, he or she will actively participate in fundraising events, grant writing and donor relations.
Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree preferred, Bachelor’s required, in community planning, arts administration, business administration or related field and three to five years of executive level management experience.
• Arts and cultural program strategies and implementation
• Principles, practices and procedures of strategic planning, nonprofit legal compliance and development ethics.
• Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations governing nonprofit administration.
• Techniques and practices for effective, efficient and cost effective management of allocated resources.
• Principles and practices of administrative management and an understanding of financial reports, budgeting, contract management and grants writing and management.
• Business and personal computers, technical spreadsheets and database applications
• Analyzing issues, evaluating alternatives and making logical recommendations based on findings.
• Assuming management level responsibilities and making appropriate decisions while assuring compliance with program goals and objectives.
• Analyzing organizational needs and prioritizing and promoting initiatives to meet resource development strategies and goals.
• Meeting critical time deadlines.
• Using initiative and independent judgment to effectively and efficiently implement arts and cultural programs
• Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands
• Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with local businesses, government representatives, funders and community-based organizations.
• Effective verbal and written communication experience
