The Theater Music Director position is responsible for providing music direction for PCT productions, accompaniment for theater auditions, private lessons in vocal coaching, piano collaboration for live orchestras within PCT productions, and music collaboration for musical theater classes in a primarily K-12 environment. Additionally, this position will act as Music Director for the Broadway Star of the Future award showcase and PCT Ensemble performance group. Other assignments may include collaborating on musical theater camps and workshops throughout the year.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as Music Director for at least 5 PCT productions throughout the This includes rehearsing and music direction of students and other duties associated with the artistic team of a musical theater production.
  • Serves as lead pianist for all PCT productions involving a live
  • Collaborates with Music staff for Repertory Orchestra rehearsals and conducts at least one live orchestra per school year.
  • Provides vocal coaching for musical theater
  • Provides piano accompaniment for any and all theater performances requiring a live pianist, in addition to workshops and masterclasses programmed throughout the year.
  • Participates in Educational Outreach classes and run-out performances, as
  • Collaborates with Theater Staff to recruit students and build programs, particularly theater programs involving the art of auditioning, vocal training, and music directing.
  • Teaches classes in areas of expertise, as assigned, with extensive knowledge in musical theater repertoire, music theory, and vocal technique.
  • Serves as Music Director for Broadway Star of the Future award showcase and PCT Ensemble performance group, working with Theater Staff on goals and programming for these events.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises adjunct or student collaborative keyboard musicians, conductors, or music directors.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music with an emphasis in piano, collaborative piano, music education, or other related field. Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Significant documented experience as a collaborative pianist in multiple styles.
  • Significant document experience as a music director and vocal coach.
  • Significant experience in music education, documented success teaching in a K-12 environment.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highly skilled in multiple musical styles on piano including classical, popular, and musical theater repertoire. Vocal background helpful.
  • Knowledge in musical theater repertoire and the college audition process preferred.
  • Ability to sight read on
  • Arranging and composing skills in music
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and a willingness to collaborate across
  • Collaborative teaming skills with children, parents, educators, administrators, and
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of multimedia software such as Q-Lab
