SOUND DESIGNER/PROGRAMMER & TECHNICIAN detailed job description

The Sound Designer/Programmer & Engineer will work with the Managing Executive Producer, Associate Producer and Design team as necessary on each event or production to oversee all audio design, programming and system needs for The Wick Theatre, Museum Club and Costume World. He/she will ensure that the audio system is properly maintained, tuned and operational. Previous experience as an audio engineer with musical theatre experience.

Assist in any audio aspects of the productions and installations with the ability to work smoothly, efficiently, and safely.

  • Ability to work in a timely manner by adhering to the install/strike schedules executed by the Managing Executive Producer and Associate Producer.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and co-workers.
  • Abide by and establish when necessary all safety programs to meet industry standards. (i.e. OSHA, Maritime OSHA, ETSI etc.)
  • Willingness to constantly listen and learn about daily operations from the Managing Executive Producer, Associate Producer, and Production Stage Manager.
  • Attend all production meetings.
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of general hand and power tools and scissor lift.
  • Must have ability to lift and carry over 50 pounds.
  • Must have ability to work at a height of 40 feet off the ground with minimal breaks for a lengthy amount of time.

Important things to bring to this position:

  • At least 2 years of professional audio experience in the entertainment business, preferably with design experience.
  • Basic knowledge of all technical elements associated with audio production and installation.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, calmly and effectively work with a design team under tight deadlines, manage multiple projects, and work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and get into the details as a team player with a “get things done” proactive attitude.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a productive timely way.
  • Loyalty, passion, and integrity.
