Sculptor

The Rock Shop is seeking a sculptor for a paid, short-term assignment, working from our Long Island City workshop. We are seeking an enthusiastic, efficient worker, who can work well within a small team, and respond well to artistic input and direction. This project is very short-term, but the right candidate would be sought out for ongoing future work.

The estimated hours for the project are ~8-12 hours total, over 1-2 days.
Pay is commensurate to experience; competitive rates offered.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Primary Skills: Oil-based clay sculpting (Monster Clay):
Candidate must possess a solid understanding of creating a medium-to-large scale clay sculpt, based on provided reference images. Sculptor should have a strong understanding of internal under-clay armature structures, as well as the ability to maintain the fidelity of the Artistic Director’s character design in a 3D sculpt.

Candidate must be able to work on-site, and adapt/edit the sculpt, based on the Artistic Director’s aesthetic input.

Secondary Skills: Understanding the process of molding and casting clay sculpts (silicon, polyurethane, and resin); Comfort with rotocasting and vacuum forming / heat molding.
