Job Description
Overview:
We are an innovative event design and décor firm, specializing in custom design, luxury rentals, and installation services for high-profile events. Based in St. Louis, we are dedicated to delivering high-quality, bespoke designs that bring our clients’ visions to life.
We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Charge Artist to lead our paint department.
This pivotal role involves overseeing the painting, surface treatments, and finishing of custom elements for events and installations. The Charge Artist will ensure that all paint and finish work meets our high standards of quality, accuracy, and timeliness, contributing to the successful execution of our projects.
Responsibilities:
- Department Leadership:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the paint department, ensuring a safe, efficient, and high-quality work environment. - Collaboration:
Work closely with Project Managers, Creative Directors, and Planners to understand and execute specific paint and finish requirements for each project. - Technique Development:
Develop and apply techniques to replicate colors, textures, create faux finishes, and age surfaces to meet project specifications. - Materials Planning:
Plan, estimate, and procure materials for custom painting and finishing tasks, ensuring that all projects have the necessary resources. - Inventory Management:
Maintain an organized inventory of paint, finishes, and related supplies, ensuring that adequate stock levels are always maintained for ongoing projects. - Maintenance:
Perform touch-ups, sanding, filling, and repainting to maintain the integrity and quality of existing inventory. - Project Support:
Collaborate with other departments and teams to manage scheduling and shared resources, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of project components. - Print Shop Support:
Assist in the print shop for related tasks, when needed, contributing to the production of custom elements for events and installations. - Team Consultation:
Consult with the Project Manager, Fabrication Manager, and Operations Manager to assess project feasibility, timelines, and resource allocation. - Safety and Quality Compliance:
Ensure all work within the paint department is conducted in adherence to safety standards and quality control guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
Proven experience as a Charge Artist, Lead Painter, or similar role in a creative, design-focused environment, with a focus on custom paint work, surface treatments, and finishes. - Skills:
Strong proficiency in painting techniques, faux finishes, surface preparation, color matching, and aging processes. Knowledge of a variety of materials and finishes is required. - Leadership:
Ability to lead a small team, providing guidance, training, and support in a collaborative environment. - Project Management:
Strong organizational skills with the ability to estimate, plan, and prioritize tasks effectively. Experience managing timelines and materials for multiple projects at once is a plus. - Creative Problem Solving:
Ability to think creatively and adapt to changing project requirements and timelines. - Safety:
Knowledge of safety protocols in a paint and fabrication environment, with the ability to enforce and uphold these standards. - Communication:
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise effectively with team members, clients, and other departments. - Detail-Oriented:
A keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results consistently. - Technical Skills:
Familiarity with tools and equipment used in painting, surface treatments, and finishing, as well as the ability to operate a variety of industrial painting tools and machinery. - Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in event design, décor, or related industries is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $19.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
