Job Description

Art House Productions seeks a Producing Director to become part of the leadership team.

Art House Productions is a performing and visual arts center established in 2001 and located in Jersey City, NJ. Art House is a home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas. We engage, inspire, entertain, and challenge audiences with ambitious performing and visual arts programs; we provide arts education programs that promote life-long learning to a diverse community, and we celebrate the essential power of the arts to illuminate our common humanity.

Art House Productions seeks a Producing Director to become part of the leadership team. The Producing Director is responsible for guiding the organization’s multi-year artistic, educational, and development planning. The position will produce all major Art House programs collaborating with the Gallery Director, Associate Producer, General Manager, Program Curators, and Executive Artistic Director. The Producing Director will support the full breadth of annual activity at Art House’s performing and visual arts center at 345 Marin Boulevard in downtown Jersey City. The position reports to the Executive Artistic Director.

Position Overview:

  • Job Type: Full-time
  • Work Arrangement: In-person with occasional work-from-home flexibility.
  • Location: Jersey City, NJ (Must be based within commuting distance; possession of a driver’s license and access to a car is not necessary, but advantageous)
  • Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000
  • Benefits:
    • 2 weeks of paid vacation and flexible paid time off (PTO)
    • Office closure from December 24th to January 2nd each year

Primary Responsibilities:

Operations/Programming:

  • Serves as primary deputy to Executive Artistic Director on season and program planning and line produces all work in the Art House Theater.
  • Supports the season planning process by researching and pitching performing arts/community programs such as commissioned theater series, and weekly and bi-monthly music, dance, comedy, and community programs.
  • Manages communication with artists, internal departments, and other stakeholders to support calendaring, budgeting, planning, and artistic development.
  • Serves as primary liaison between artists and internal departments, including but not limited to admin, part-time employees, and board of trustees.
  • Manages administrative and producing interns at Art House.
  • Supports the associate producer in developing promotional messaging, and to identify creative collaborators for each production aligned with the overall vision.
  • Engages with staff to ensure that all promotions, artist needs, community needs, ADA needs, permits, licenses, and contractual obligations are met.
  • Serves as a representative of Art House Productions to the Board of Directors and community and state stakeholders.
  • Supports the feasibility assessment of potential added projects.
  • Attends all board meetings.
  • Ensures smooth production and excellent communication, wrap up, and evaluation of all programs at Art House including core programming: theater programming, Diner en Blanc, JC Fridays, the Jersey City Comedy Festival, the INKubator New Play Program, the Art House Gallery, education programs, and presenting programs at the visual and performing arts center.

 

Development:

  • Assists in organizing and producing annual campaigns and fundraising events such as Hudson Gives, Snow Ball Gala, and Le Diner en Blanc – Jersey City.

Marketing/Outreach:

  • Oversees marketing and audience development strategies with support from the Associate Producer.
  • Manages graphics, e-blasts, and press releases with support from the Associate Producer and Executive Artistic Director.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of professional arts administration experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of non-profit theater and/or arts organizations.
  • Strong commitment to Art House’s mission and values.
  • Organized, highly detail-oriented, and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent writing, research, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive and goal-oriented.
  • Team player interested in learning all aspects of the small organization.
  • Experience with Google Drive Suite and all social media platforms.
  • Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours as required.
  • Previous experience managing and developing a team.

 

Skills that are necessary to excel in this role include:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to initiate and deliver creative solutions for complex problems.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, time, and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, protocol awareness, and communication skills, particularly public relations/public speaking.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills to function as the primary liaison among artists and all staff.
