Job Description
The Yale Center for British Art (YCBA) is offering a Postdoctoral Associate position in the Academic Affairs, Education, and Research division for one year with the possibility of renewal.
This position is for candidates interested in developing teaching and writing skills within the art museum environment. It is open to those who have completed a PhD in art history, museology, cultural heritage, or a related field. The PhD must be completed by the time the position begins. Teaching experience at the university level and/or in a museum context is preferred.
Reporting to the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, Education, and Research, the Postdoctoral Associate will undertake a range of activities to drive forward divisional initiatives, including but not limited to course development, proposal and report writing, bibliographic work, publication development, and review and analysis of scholarly writing. More specifically, the candidate will devise the intellectual rubric, structure, and content of object-focused courses; teach and co-teach classes; undertake research into the museum’s holdings; and develop a variety of other projects that may take the shape of conferences, proposals, publications, or symposia.
The Yale Center for British Art houses the largest collection of British art outside the United Kingdom, encompassing works from the fifteenth century to the present in a range of media. The museum offers a vibrant, year-round program of events and exhibitions in person and online. Presented to the university by collector and philanthropist Paul Mellon (Yale College, Class of 1929), the museum opened to the public in 1977.
