- EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-Exempt; Full-Time with flexible hours at the discretion of Director of Fine Arts

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Master Carpenter builds and installs theatrical stage sets for the main stage and blackbox shows.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Builds and installs theatrical stage sets for main stage and blackbox shows.
- Communicates with the appropriate personnel should additional supplies needed with be purchased
- Works with Performing Arts Instructors, Production Manager, and other technical theatre students to support the director and set designers vision for each show
- Attend tech rehearsals as needed
- Collaborates and communicates with the Director of Fine Arts, Performing Arts Instructors, and Production Manager the status of the builds to ensure deadlines are appropriately met
- Reads and interprets shop drawings
- Fabricates and installs high quality scenic elements
- Monitors and evaluates the installments to ensure effectiveness and safety of the elements, theatrical participants, and attendees of the productions
SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the following:
- Load-in and strike of the main stage shows
- Organization of storage areas
- Maintenance of theatre equipment
- Monitor inventory
- Communicate with Production Manager regarding preventative maintenance of supplies, as needed
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred
- Prior experience in carpentry is required.
- Experience working with the following materials is desired:
- Wood
- Foams
- Plastics
- Plaster
- Metals
- Etc.
- Experience in fly system rigging is helpful
- Experience and understanding of lighting and audio is helpful

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds
- Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling
- Comfortably able to climb stairs and ladders
- Comfortable with heights
- May be exposed to high level noises or chemicals with proper protection equipment
