Illinois Art Station Education Coordinator

Job Description
This is a highly visible position responsible for developing, implementing, delivering and coordinating various Illinois Art Station (IAS) educational visual arts classes and programs to the public, community groups, and area art institutions.
This position is responsible for managing programming staff and volunteer education assistants. Work is performed under the general supervision of the IAS Manager.
The starting range for this position is $48,686 – $57,277 depending on qualifications.
The full range for this position is $48,686 – $77,428.
Duties/Essential Job Functions
- Oversees the development of fun, innovative, informal, and hands-on art classes and programs at the IAS.
- Serve as the primary liaison between IAS and area schools and other youth-focused community organizations.
- Trains, manages, and oversees art education staff and interns, providing guidance and instruction to ensure quality program delivery and professional staff development.
- Develops the content of curriculum for IAS programs and assists in the strategic planning of a successful art programming mix.
- Develops, prepares, conducts and evaluates public programs including early childhood, day camps and summer camps.
- Assists with planning and implementation of programs for family events.
- Assists with afterschool and outreach programs as needed.
- Leads art education lessons when necessary.
- Maintains records of their educational activities and prepares reports and presentations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
- Must possess a wide knowledge of and enthusiasm for the visual arts
- Must possess excellent skill in oral communication and presentations, including one-on-one, small and large group settings.
- Must possess skill in developing presentations and educational programs to various community groups and to design presentations to the target groups.
- Must possess excellent written communication skills.
- Must be strongly self motivated and disciplined to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to manage, coordinate and motivate a multi-staff operation.
- Must possess considerable knowledge of how children and youth learn and the ability to develop educational art programming for them.
- Must possess excellent skill in establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relations with Town officials and employees, school officials and community leaders, parents and children.
- Must possess a teamwork orientation and a positive attitude for accomplishing the mission of the Art Station.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Must have and retain a valid Illinois driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation.
Desirable Training and Experience
Graduation from college or university with a degree in art education, art history, studio art, museum studies, or a closely related field supplemented by relevant work experience is preferred; or any other training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
