Job Description

• Schedule: Part-time in 2025 (3-4 days a week) starting August 2025; Full-time in 2026, contract role
• Location: Hybrid, requires both remote and on-site availability

The Medina Triennial seeks a highly organized, experienced, and hands-on Head Producer to oversee all aspects of production for its inaugural edition. This position is central to the realization of a major town-wide contemporary art exhibition, involving more than 50 artworks across a dozen venues in Medina, New York.

The Head Producer manages the full production lifecycle, including artwork transport, installation, deinstallation, venue coordination, team supervision, and artist support. The role spans planning and implementation phases, from detailed logistics in 2025 through active on-site management in 2026.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Exhibition Management

  • Oversee all artworks’ safe transport, storage, installation, and deinstallation, with Programs Manager.
  • Manage a team of preparators, technicians, and contractors.
  • Supervise artwork handling, site-specific installations, and adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with artists and curators to realize ambitious, complex installations across multiple sites, with Curators and Programs Manager.
  • Maintain and oversee tools, materials, and production equipment.

 

Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and manage the installation and Engagement Guide (invigilation) teams.
  • Co-lead a training program for Engagement Guides focusing on public engagement and safety.
  • Supervise daily operations on-site in Medina during the exhibition period (June 6–September 7, 2026, Thursday–Sunday, 12–7 pm).

 

Logistics and Administration

  • Develop and manage detailed production schedules and timelines.
  • Coordinate insurance, transportation, and condition reporting for artworks.
  • Manage building and site renovations in collaboration with contractors and partners.
  • Oversee all exhibition venues, ensuring access, maintenance, and readiness.
  • Track production budgets in collaboration with team.

 

Availability Requirements

Must be available full-time on-site during the installation period (March–May 2026), the run of the Triennial (June 6–September 7, 2026), and select days in 2025 and 2026.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in production for exhibitions, biennials, museums, or public art.
  • Proven ability to manage large-scale installations, production teams, and timelines.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of contemporary art practices and materials.
  • Familiarity with insurance, condition reporting, and registrarial protocols.
  • Comfortable using project management tools (Slack and Notion) or quick tolearn as well as budget tracking software.
  • Valid driver’s license and car and ability to commute to Medina and workacross multiple venues.
  • Experience with light construction, fabrication, or AV installations is a plus.
