Executive Director

The Mountain Playhouse is a cultural jewel in the Laurel Highlands and one of Pennsylvania’s oldest professional theater companies. The theater was designated a 501(3) nonprofit organization in 1998 and is governed by a board of directors comprised of community members. The Mountain Playhouse is an approved Pennsylvania Educational Improvement Organization and is a key partner for more than 45 area school districts. The board of directors is dedicated and committed to continuing to enrich the lives of the people of southwestern Pennsylvania by producing and presenting live professional theater, developing new works and offering educational opportunities.

This is a full-time on-site role located in Somerset, PA for an Executive Director at The Mountain Playhouse. The ED will be responsible for overseeing all operations of a nonprofit theater company, including managing budgets, fundraising, community and donor engagement, artistic programming, staff development, and board relationships. The ED will work closely  with the Producer to assure professional operations and success of the organization.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership, coaching and relationship management experience in the arts or nonprofit sector
• Strong business and financial acumen, with an understanding of budgets, financial statements, and strategic planning; use of data-driven program evaluation and monitoring
• Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills, with experience building relationships with donors, sponsors, community leaders, and board members
• Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor development
• A proven track record of artistic programming, production, and community engagement that aligns with the mission of The Mountain Playhouse
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field, such as arts management, nonprofit management, business administration, or a related field; track record of effectively leading a nonprofit organization preferred
• Strong organizational and administrative skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and follow through on organization tasks; high level of energy and creativity
• A passion for the performing arts and an unwavering commitment to creating accessible, inclusive, and diverse programming and community engagement initiatives
• Experience working with a board of directors and a deep understanding of governance, fiduciary responsibility, and legal compliance as well as the ability to cultivate board member relationships
• Strong marketing, public relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
• Strong written, technology and verbal communication skills to work effectively in collaboration with a diverse patron audience and community
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
