Job Description

UWGB is in Green Bay, Wisconsin which is located at the southern end of Green Bay, an arm of Lake Michigan. Green Bay is a vibrant community with a metro population of over 300,000, and is approximately 90 miles north of Milwaukee, about a 3-hr drive to Chicago, and is the third largest city on Lake Michigan after Milwaukee and Chicago. With its location and geography, Green Bay is easily accessible for a day trip of great skiing in the winter months and to enjoy beautiful mountains and the lakefront.

UWGB is also the home of The Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, or The Weidner. The Weidner is located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on the far east side of the city. Presenting a wide variety of cultural, entertaining and educational performing arts, The Weidner serves the Northeastern Wisconsin community while also hosting the University’s theatrical and musical ensembles and features local musicians, traveling theatre troupes, stand-up comedy shows, University musicals and anything else that can be performed on a stage. This beautiful and massive center displays original artwork throughout and is full of theatrical traditions formed over the years. The Weidner also has world-renowned acoustics. Inside the large concert hall sits on display a large, 16-foot wooden organ with exposed pipes for a visually appealing and grand sounding musical accompaniment. The Grand Foyer is the home to a Dale Chihuly original chandelier made up of hundreds of individually blown glass pieces creating a rainbow of colors. There are over 2,000 seats available in the main theater and plenty of smaller venues throughout the Weidner Center to host a variety of events and performances.

 

The Weidner is building a community engagement team to build stronger relationships with the community of Green Bay and the University. The Weidner strives to serve the students and community to function as Green Bay’s cultural town square where, with huge open spaces, additional classes, performances and other exciting possibilities to better utilize the space of The Weidner, a new position has been created and is currently available for your consideration- The Cultural Outreach and Development Specialist.

 

The Cultural Outreach and Development Specialist (CODS), reporting directly to the Executive and Artistic Director of The Weidner and the Vice Chancellor for Advancement, will be focused on building a culture of support for The Weidner, whild deeply engaging the community in long term ways. The CODS will collaborate with the Community Engagement & Outreach Coordinator to create and develop deep ties into communities that The Weidner does not presently serve to find new opportunities for engagement and financial support for The Weidner. The CODS will assist in the planning, promotion and execution of development and philanthropic events while leading the creation and maintenance of informational materials. The CODS will identify and oversee key stakeholders to cultivate, expand and manage these relationships and will oversee reporting efforts on the effectiveness of development activities in this area. The CODS, in partnership with the Executive and Artistic Director of The Weidner, is responsible for all philanthropy at The Weidner and identifying new sources of financial support.

 

Candidates with the following required qualifications, skills, and abilities are encouraged to apply:

  • Demonstrable fundraising success and experience in community engagement in a relevant capacity and field
  • Passionate to create, build and develop a new path and model for engaging communities in the arts in the Greater Green Bay area
  • Excellent problem solving, verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills working in a variety of diverse communities
  • Proficiency with desktop hardware and standard business software programs including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suites
  • Keen attention to detail, proofreading and editing skills
  • Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a collaborative setting
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
  • Experience in grant writing, application and reporting with supporting metrics and data
  • Varied experience in an arts organization with an emphasis on philanthropy, development and donor relations

 

Physical Demands

The employee must have the mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, hearing and speech to converse in person and over the telephone, and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen. Must be able to walk to locations on campus. Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 25 lbs. Must be able to work at a computer for long periods of time. Compensation

UWGB offers an excellent salary and benefits package with a base salary range of $45,000 to $59,000 in annual salary and a top comprehensive benefits package that includes several health insurance options, vision, dental, life insurance options, Wisconsin Retirement Savings (WRS) and supplemental retirement savings programs including a 403(b) and Deferred Compensation, paid leave benefits, and more.
