Position Focus:

The Alumni Affairs Officer and Senior Writer is responsible for alumni affairs communications and annual fund campaigns for the School and Yale Repertory Theatre and serves as senior writer and editor for the department.

 

Essential Duties:

  1. Independently manages Alumni Relations writing projects, as assigned, from inception through delivery.
  2. Meet with faculty, deans, and program leaders to translate School priorities into compelling language for specific donors, alumni, and corporate audiences. Responsible for determining the best way to relay strategic messaging about school priorities to various constituencies.
  3. Collaborates with School staff to prepare various written materials, including grant and gift proposals, fundraising summaries, annual appeals, cultivation and stewardship correspondence, and research summaries for internal and external School constituents.
  4. Project management of multiple writing projects with competing and urgent timelines for the school leadership, faculty, and development department.
  5. Represents the Development and Alumni Relations office to other School and University departments and serves on committees.
  6. Drafts, formats, proofreads, edits, and updates written materials and maintains a library of materials.
  7. Proactively researches and suggests content to support and reinforce the school’s fundraising goals.
  8. Collaborates and advises on materials design with the marketing and communications department.
  9. May perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and three years of experience writing and editing for development audiences in a non-profit or higher education setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Outstanding interviewing, editing, and writing skills and the proven ability to develop interesting content suitable for web and non-web distribution.

 

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Superior demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Excellent proofreading and editing skills. Proven ability to adapt to changing technologies.

 

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Excellent interpersonal skills, and proven ability to effectively deal with all levels within the organization.

 

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Proven ability to multi-task and work independently. Demonstrated ability working in a fast-paced team environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. Proven project management experience.

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as English or communications, and five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
