The Liberal Arts division of Montserrat College of Art is seeking a full-time faculty member in the field of sociology, social psychology, or psychology. Responsibilities would begin in the fall semester of 2021.
Full-time Assistant/Associate Professor: Sociology or Psychology Generalist
Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties:
The Division’s goals are to offer a strong foundation in the liberal arts, and to encourage critical thinking, create engaged learners, and give students a base from which to understand the world around them. Our students are artists, and their work reflects and critiques our society and culture. In addition to classroom teaching, all faculty are expected to actively participate in college and departmental meetings and activities, curriculum development, committee work, and student advising. Liberal Arts faculty members may also be asked to serve as senior project advisors or serve on student review panels. All faculty are expected to maintain an active professional practice as an artist, designer, and/or researcher that contributes to the educational mission of the college and its programming
Recent courses offered in the Division include Psychology of Art & Creativity, Self & Society, Developmental Psychology, and Cultural Anthropology. Ample opportunities for curriculum development are available.
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in working with art students, specifically sophomores and juniors, and be willing to develop broad, introductory courses as well as topic-specific electives. Specific interests may include gender studies, LGBTQ+ studies, social justice, and anti-racism work. We are not a research-based institution, but welcome candidates who seek or have secured outside funding for their academic work.
Classroom experience and/or significant team leadership is essential. Candidates must have a minimum of a completed Master’s degree (PhD preferred), be professionally active in their chosen field, and enthusiastic about working with undergraduate artists.
