Part-Time Artistic/Design/Production Team Members for New Musical

MY DEAR WATSON  Chicago, Illinois, United States

Job Description

Seeking designers and production team members for a participant in the 2019 Chicago Musical Theatre Festival.

Book, Music and Lyrics by Jami-Leigh Bartschi

Directed by Skylar Grieco

Follow the legendary friendship of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. Through the mystery, action, and cleverness woven throughout Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories, My Dear Watson looks beyond the realm of narrative and into the heart of the man himself… that is, if he has one at all. In this dramatic musical told from the perspective of Dr. Watson, we are forced to reanalyze and redefine love and friendship for a man who is seemingly incapable of both. Is there a man in the machine?

My Dear Watson is a participant in The 2019 Chicago Musical Theatre Festival taking place February 2019 at the Edge Theatre, 5451 North Broadway, Chicago, IL 60640. We are seeking to fill the following design and production team positions. All positions are paid.

To apply please email with your resume and a brief introduction.

Musical Director – The Musical Director will be responsible for teaching the music to the cast, attending and accompanying rehearsals, recruiting musicians for the performances, and leading separate orchestra rehearsals with the musicians. Strong background in music direction, teaching music to actors, and leading a small band/orchestra required.

Lighting Designer – This a festival production, so expect to make use of a shared light plot with other productions. Given the time and constraints, we intend to have a dynamic, yet simple lighting design with strong attention to creating isolated moments and intimate scenes of storytelling.

The scenic design should be simple in appearance, and versatile in function. The Scenic Designer/Technical Director will also be responsible for the acquiring and constructing of scenic units.

Costume Designer – Costumes will be simple, yet versatile. We are seeking to blend elements from Victorian dress, without falling entirely into period design. Costume Designer will be responsible for the acquiring and construction of costume pieces.

Props Designer – Props designer will work closely with the scenic designer/technical director. There are a number of necessary props to source, including a few firearms. Props designer will be responsible for the acquiring and construction of props, as well as coordinating with the scenic designer on any multi use furniture/units.
