We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Art Handler to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have experience in art handling, installation, and facilities maintenance in a gallery or museum setting.

Key Responsibilities

Art Handling & Installation

• Safely handle and install artwork of various media and scales
• Assist with exhibition changeovers, including de-installation and installation
• Prepare gallery spaces for exhibitions (patching, painting walls, etc.)
• Collaborate with curators, artists, and art handlers on complex installations
• Package and crate artworks for transportation
• Maintain proper documentation of artwork condition

Collection Management / Special Projects

• Report to Head of Special Projects: assistance with inventory management and artwork storage
• Attend off-site meetings where art handling may be needed (with conservators, general contractors, maintenance, etc.)
• Fabricating unique solutions to packing problems on and off-site.
• Maintaining local off-site storage
• Perform condition reporting before and after exhibitions
• Support receiving and shipping of artworks
• Perform local collections, returns and installations.

Facilities Maintenance

• Monitor gallery climate conditions and lighting
• Perform basic facility maintenance and troubleshooting
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of gallery spaces and storage areas across Amant’s campus
• Report facility issues that require specialized attention

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in art handling, preferably in a museum or gallery setting
• Demonstrated knowledge of proper art handling techniques for various media
• Proficiency with tools and equipment used in art installation
• Proficiency with AV equipment and programming.
• Experience with inventory management systems such as Artlogic.
• Experience with basic construction and woodworking.
• Understanding of conservation principles and museum standards
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• BFA/MFA or equivalent experience preferred
• Valid driver’s license.

Hours and Compensation

This is a 3-day position (Tuesday through Thursday) with some evening and weekend availability required during exhibition installations and special events. Compensation is $30/hr.
