Full-Time Visiting Assistant Professor in Department of Dance, 3-year term, full time
The Department of Dance at Denison University seeks a full-time, three-year replacement position in a small, but vibrant department that balances Eurocentric and Africanist values, movement practices, and dance studies. We are most keen on hiring someone with writing expertise, and for whom contributing to the teaching of writing in the discipline will be a priority.
The successful candidate will be able to teach all levels of a modern/postmodern movement practice, and any three of the following: Composition, Cultural Studies (a topics course on some aspect of dance history), Movement Analysis (Laban-based), and Somatics (Body-Mind Centering, Feldenkrais, Ideokinesis, etc. preferred). Preference will be given to candidates who are certified in either movement analysis or somatics. The department also offers a Seminar in Production and Performance courses; these are very welcome additions to the candidate’s teaching expertise.
The successful candidate will join a faculty of three who, jointly, offer African/Diaspora movement practices, modern/postmodern movement practices, multiple approaches to cultural studies, multiple approaches compositional studies, various forays into Laban-based movement analysis and notation, Ideokinesis and Body-Mind Centering-based somatic explorations, and senior level methodology, research, analysis, and reflection.
PhD/PhD(abd) or MFA is required; Writing in the discipline expertise necessary
