Full-Time Sound Designer/Supervisor
DIVISION OF PERFORMING ARTS
Sound Designer/Supervisor – DeSales University’s Division of Performing Arts and Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival (PSF) seek applications for a 12-month staff position specializing in sound design and production. For an active, production-intensive academic division and a professional LORT-level summer theatre operating in rep, the sound designer/supervisor will serve as the resident sound designer/supervisor for all division and PSF productions. The sound systems in the Labuda Center for the Performing Arts require experience in the following areas: general audio system flow for hybrid digital and analog systems; audio over IP (Dante); digital mixing consoles (Yamaha CL Series); wireless microphones; computer-based audio playback (Figure 53 QLAB); and digital signal processing.
Responsibilities include: sound design, creating and supervising all aspects of sound capture, recording, mixing and amplification, including builds, load-ins, technical rehearsals, performances and strikes for all productions; oversight and maintenance of sound systems and operations; troubleshooting technical problems; supervising student crews, hiring and supervising professional sound crews (summer); coordinating equipment rentals, and supporting the programming and production needs of select university events.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or concentration in Sound Design/Production (required) and MFA in Sound Design/Production (preferred); excellent audio skills including the ability to program and operate boards and program and maintain equipment; professional-level sound design ability and experience; strong data network understanding; working knowledge with computer sound editing software; effective leadership skills; ability to demonstrate team orientation; ability to routinely work evenings, weekends, and extended hours when in production; attentive to opportunities to promote diversity; and dedicated to the mission of a small, Catholic, liberal arts institution.
