Job Description

Title: Visual Art Instructor

Reports to: Chair, Visual Arts

 

Job Goal:

The Alabama School of Fine Arts is seeking a full time Visual Arts Instructor who is an actively exhibiting artist and whose practice includes a developed expertise in new media which can include: computer generated imagery, digital drawing, painting and sculpture, digital and physical installation, 3D modeling, time-based media, sound, or animation.  This person will be responsible for teaching 7th -12th grade classes that fuse new media instruction with our existing curriculum.  This person would also be charged with teaching an 11th grade yearlong course in Art History. Other duties will include assisting in departmental activities such as gallery exhibitions, art competitions, and community outreach.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Teach courses appropriate to varying levels of student proficiency.
  • Collaborate with Visual Arts Chair and faculty to establish and maintain consistency in curriculum, instruction, and performance.
  • Assist Visual Arts Chair and faculty with outreach work.
  • Determine individual and class needs.
  • Establish objectives and plan learning experiences.
  • Implement activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time and meet objectives.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Exhibit positive human relations skills.
  • Evaluate the educational program and student progress.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Maintain and submit records and reports.
  • Work with all other instructors to facilitate flexible test dates and class attendance to benefit students.
  • Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Engage in personal professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics and leadership.
  • Utilize and communicate with modern information technology e-mail and student information software.
  • Attend and provide adult leadership and support for school performances and other school and student functions.

 

Qualifications:   MFA or commensurate experience and possess a strong interest in Art History.

Salary: To commensurate with experience and degree

Term: 10 Months, starting August 2023
