The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, an American Alliance of Museums accredited, award- winning museum, seeks a Public Programs Coordinator for our new facility, The ARTSpace on Main.
The ideal candidate will believe that museums are centers of diversity, learning, creativity, and fun.

The ARTSpace on Main is a dynamic multi-use arts & events space with a retail gallery, exhibition gallery, and artist workshop studio located in Downtown Pine Bluff, in the heart of the progressing arts & entertainment corridor.  Next door to The ARTSpace is its sister facility, ART WORKS on Main, featuring a black box theater and artist apartments and studios.


Position Description

The ARTSpace (ASOM) Public Programs Coordinator oversees the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the ASOM’s visual arts workshops and outreach programs to attract and engage the communities of Southeast Arkansas. This position will help develop programs and events for a variety of audiences, as well as carry out essential operational duties.

This position will be responsible for seeking instructors, facilitating contracts and logistics of workshops, and ensuring the unification of programming between the Arts & Science Center (the umbrella museum) and the ASOM campus. Some specific responsibilities include establishing community partnerships, scheduling spaces, creating and processing program registrations, and confirming set-up details. This position was created to deepen engagement through innovative programming and events and to identify The ARTSpace as a relevant educational hub.  The goal will be to facilitate the effective management of programs according to the organization’s standards.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Coordinate program logistics and provide event support for public programs, workshops, and events
  • Manage teaching artist contracts and process payments
  • Create and process program registrations and payments
  • Create program schedule and confirm set-up details
  • Procure and prepare supplies
  • Coordinating with the ASC museum Education Management Team on events and programs
  • Manage A/V needs and set up
  • Collaborate with ASC museum staff to develop content and plans for advertisements, press coverage, web content, and other promotional materials in a timely manner
  • Professionally and courteously handle inquiries via telephone and email
  • Maintain timely and accurate program statistics
  • Collect and administer surveys to track visitor engagement and satisfaction
  • Work with the ASC Facilities Manager and relevant staff on coordinating and facilitating event rentals at The ARTSpace
  • Supervise volunteers, interns, and contracted artists as needed
  • Interact with the arts and education community and civic bodies as an advocate for The ARTSpace and the ASC museum.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays
  • Other duties as

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in, but not limited to, Museum Studies, Public Programs, Visual Arts, Education, or Marketing. Minimum two years of experience coordinating public programs, including: overseeing contracts, managing event support staff, and collaborating with the marketing department on publicity. Proficient in Microsoft Office/Adobe Cloud applications. Strong written and oral communication skills; effective problem solving, flexibility, and a sense of humor.  Possess the ability to forge and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and diverse program partners. Must be a self-starter and show attention to detail; possess excellent organizational skills, work accurately and efficiently, and keep track of numerous projects simultaneously. This position must be flexible and able to work independently, collaboratively, and effectively in a fast-paced, creative environment.

Special Requirements & Compensation

This year round, full-time position with full benefits may at times require a flexible schedule to accommodate programs, events, and after-hours work including weekend and evening hours. Annual compensation includes a salary range of $33,000 – $36,000 depending on experience, plus health insurance, paid sick/leave time, and paid holidays. The incumbent should have a valid driver’s license, be able to lift items up to 30 pounds, handle tools or controls, climb a ladder, and travel periodically for programs or meetings.
