Technical Director of Theatre & Film Department

The position is responsible for assisting the executive director and department chair in the coordination, supervision, and management of the Theatre & Film Department. This position includes specialized teaching work performed in both an educational setting and professional theater setting.

The Technical Director is responsible for planning, teaching various classes in technical theatre (i.e., construction, design, lighting, sound, scene painting, etc.), assessing student work, preparing for and running live performances, fostering community partnerships and guest artists, supporting the department at community festivals in which students perform, and conferring with families, students, and colleagues. In addition, this position is responsible for helping to recruit and retain part-time faculty to support the technical track of the Theatre & Film Department.

The Technical Director is responsible for leading the department in setting high expectations for students and helping students meet those expectations through communicating clear goals, scaffolding instruction, defining levels of achievement and encouraging student reflection.
