Job Description

Position: Special Assistant/Moving Light Programmer and Theatrical Electrician
Department: Production
Reports to: Head Electrician
FLSA Classification: Hourly
Compensation: The base pay rate is set by the current IATSE Local 15 CBA contract rate, currently at $42.70.
Benefits: Benefits are provided through Local 15 according to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
Work Locations: Downtown Seattle. The 5th Avenue Theatre and administrative office located within Skinner Building (1326 5th Avenue, Suite 735), The 5th Avenue Scene Shop (860 S Cambridge St, Seattle, WA 98108), and our Kent, WA warehouse (22703 72nd Ave S,)

Special Assistant/Moving Light Programmer and Theatrical Electrician

Position Summary

The Special Assistant Programmer/Theatrical Electrician programs moving lights for mainstage shows in the season. Working with the Head Electrician, Production Electrician and the Electrics Department, this role also participates in show prep, hang, maintenance, and repair of electrics equipment. Additional work may be available as a swing for show run crew.

This position is represented by IATSE, Local No. 15.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Moving Lights
  • Work with Production Electrician to prep equipment for productions.
  • Assisting the Head Electrician and Assistant Electrician by running small crews to accomplish specific tasks.
  • Operating and maintaining department-related items and equipment including, but not limited to, lighting instruments and accessories, fog/haze/special effects machines, cable, lighting systems and networks.
  • Turning on or off the stage power distribution panels in order to activate or deactivate a piece of equipment.
  • Comply with all safety and security procedures related to the show and The 5th Avenue Theatre’s safety policies.
  • Comply with the policies and procedures of The 5th Avenue Theatre, including personnel rules and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Uphold the artistic standards and achieve the artistic vision of The 5th Avenue Theatre.
  • Model and support the mission and values of The 5th Avenue Theatre.

 

Essential Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Experience with EOS family consoles, primarily the TI and ION. Experience with console partitions and multiple programmer/user set ups a plus.
  • The successful candidate will be proficient at performing in a range of electrics positions, including light board operator, spotlight operator and stage deck electrician.
  • Functional knowledge of electricity and electrical circuits.
  • Knowledge of power tie-ins and disconnects.
  • Experience with LED/pixel tape setup, low voltage dimming, A/V & various theatrical special effects is a plus.
  • The ability to work as a team member and independently is required.
  • Software: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) on a PC, AutoCAD and or Vectorworks. Lightwright, Google applications.
  • Experience reading scaled drawings and drawing packages.
  • General knowledge of theatrical safety.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (English primarily).
  • Analyze and explore issues pertaining to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Candidate should be able to program for extended periods of time; up to 14 hours a day.
  •  Candidate should be able to stand and work for the extent of the work day.
  • Ability to lift, move, push, pull 20-4 lbs. occasionally, alone or with assistance
  • Duties will require stooping, bending, reaching and sitting.
  • Candidate will occasionally be required to work at height from a ladder, fixed position or platform, or mobile personnel lift.
  • Candidate will train on head protection and fall protection strategies used at 5th Ave Theatre.
