Sound Engineer 2024-2025 Season

Job Description

• Pay: $37.50/hr.

• Starts: 09/09/24, Ends: 05/09/24

 

The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University is seeking a Sound Engineer for its 2024/2025 season in the New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York area. This is a part time seasonal position working 20 hours a week, except during shows which will be more than 20 hours.

The Sound Engineer will assist the Sound Supervisor as well as mix sound for at least 3 shows during the school year. They will be responsible for the set-up, strike, and changeover of sound equipment for rehearsals, special events and performances. They will train students on equipment operation and safety. The Sound Engineer will help maintain drawings and paperwork for repertory sound plots; Maintain a strong working knowledge of all current theatrical technologies, with an emphasis on sound. Work closely with faculty, staff, guest artists and students of the Theater and Dance Departments to maintain the high standards that The Lewis Center is known for throughout the community.

Qualifications

  • 2 years or more experience

  • Possess a strong understanding of Audio Signal Flow and operation.

  • Proficient in live sound engineering for small and large productions in a variety of venues.

  • Demonstrated expertise in programming, operating, and trouble-shooting Yamaha consoles and Midas consoles. Specifically: Yamaha CL1, CL3 and Midas Pro 2 mixing consoles.

  • Proficient in QLab, Vectorworks, Google Drive and Microsoft Office.

  • Qualified candidates must be able to set up a band in a very neat and organized fashion.

  • Knowledge of Dante networks.

  • Knowledge of Shure Wireless and Shure Wireless Workbench.

  • Strong wireless systems understanding including programming, troubleshooting, maintenance, software and networking knowledge.

  • Capable of utilizing Hellerman Tools, Multi-Meters, and can demonstrate understanding of wireless element rigging.

  • Familiarity with Clear-Com systems including HelixNet and Freespeak.

  • Skilled in soldering cable, speaker rigging/hanging, and signal patching.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, positive attitude, team player, collaboration skills, problem solving skills and a great sense of humor.

  • Self-motivated, organized and detail oriented.

  • Ability to make thoughtful and timely decisions responding to shifting priorities and challenges as they arise.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be able to troubleshoot problems quickly and effectively.

  • Must be comfortable working at heights and able to lift and carry 50lbs.

  • Job requires the ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, and bend, stoop, or kneel in execution of duties as assigned.

  • BA/BS/BFA preferred or similar experience.
