Full-Time Program Director
The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) is a DC- and Hampton Roads-based nonprofit with a mission to reintegrate veterans, service members, and military families into their communities through the arts. We promote expression, skill-development, and camaraderie through classes, workshops, and performances across a variety of artistic disciplines. Our focus on consistent programs and partnerships ensures that members of our community have continuous opportunities for artistic and personal growth. Our approach provides participants with transferable life skills, a renewed sense of purpose, and improved well-being. At the same time, we strengthen ties between veterans and their communities through the arts.
WHAT THE JOB ENTAILS
ASAP is looking for an energetic leader to drive the planning, development, execution, and expansion of the organization’s programs. The ideal candidate will be experienced in program management and leading teams, entrepreneurial, even-keeled, extremely organized, and passionate about growing the organization’s impact. Qualified candidates must be comfortable with monthly travel along the East Coast, and must be able to work evenings and weekends in support of the organization’s programs and performances. A detailed overview of the role – as well as the type of Program Director for whom we are looking – is included below.
- Program Planning & Partnerships: Develop and oversee the execution of ASAP’s annual program plan; cultivate and manage ASAP’s major program-related partnerships.
- Program Improvement: Drive the consistent improvement of ASAP’s overall program model, program operations infrastructure and systems, and program curricula.
- Personnel Development: Lead, develop, and grow the size of ASAP’s program staff, instructors, mentors, and volunteers.
- Program Evaluation: Facilitate the development, implementation, and improvement of ASAP’s monitoring and evaluation system; build and manage relationships with researchers to promote thought leadership around ASAP’s program model.
- Training & Volunteer Development: Spearhead the planning, delivery, evaluation, improvement, and expansion of ASAP’s volunteer model and training activities for teaching artists and volunteers.
- Advisory Management: Manage and leverage the expertise of ASAP’s Artist Council and Advisory Council; recruit new members to each council; adjust and improve ASAP’s advisory support structure as needed.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and implement ASAP’s strategic and growth priorities.
- Program Funding: Partner with the Executive Director to secure grant, sponsorship, and private funding for ASAP’s programs.
- Program Coordination: Support program staff with the scheduling, coordination, and execution of ASAP’s programs.
RELEVANT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: It is preferred that you have prior experience with the following:
- Project and/or program management
- Partnership development, execution, and management
- Leading teams
- Program evaluation/M&E
- Training development and management
- Volunteer recruiting and management
- Strategic, operational, and expansion planning
- Grant writing and sponsorship development
SYSTEMS: You must have advanced proficiency in Google Drive, Documents, Forms, and Calendar, as well as Microsoft Office Suite. You must be able to develop proficiency in Asana project management software, Slack communications software, Classy fundraising management platform, Squarespace web development tools, and CRM platforms.

- You are comfortable with working 50-60+ hours per week, including nights and weekends for programs and performances.
- You have at least a Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of demonstrated leadership experience.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Starting salary of $70,000-$75,000.

- Generous holiday schedule, including paid weeks off the week of July 4th and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
