POSITION PURPOSE
As Head of Audio and Video, you are responsible for managing the Audio & Projection Department.
POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Overseeing the set-up, operation and maintenance of the primary sound and projection systems in connection with all IRT productions and space rentals.
- Overseeing all secondary and support sound and projection systems, which include (but not limited to): wired and wireless headset communications, audio monitoring systems, regular and low-light video monitoring systems, assistive listening systems, projectors, projection control systems, and stand-alone AV carts.
- Facilitating recordings for IRT’s marketing pieces, pre-show and emergency announcements, show-specific recording sessions as dictated by the director or designer, IRT Radio Show, and other recording needs that may arise.
- Determine and assign workload to staff engineers, incidental labor, and over-hire in order to ensure faithful execution of the designs and to provide the highest quality of audio and projection support.
- Manage purchases, budgets, inventory, organization/storage, and maintain all necessary paperwork and documentation associated with these things.
- Assist with long-range planning of theatrical capital projects and needs.
- Assist with special requests, interdepartmental needs as requested and agreed upon with supervisors.
- Attend all required staff, departmental, production and company meetings.
- Perform such tasks, services, duties, and responsibilities in accordance with IRT policies, rules, regulations and instructions now in force or which may be adopted from time to time during Employee’s employment at the IRT.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Other duties as determined by Production Manager, General Manager, and Artistic Director
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in live sound environment, theatrical sound preferred.
- Experience with sound design for live theatre
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- In depth knowledge of QLab and other industry standard audio control systems
- In depth knowledge of digital audio and analog consoles and systems, gain structure, and construction of large format sound systems,
- In depth knowledge of audio editing, recording, and reinforcement
- In depth knowledge of video systems
- Familiarity with Dante control and networking
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite, Mac, and network functionality.
- Ability to work in a team and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to collaborate with fellow staff and free-lance artists.
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
HEALTH & SAFETY
- COVID-19 vaccination, one booster, and proof of vaccination are required for employment at the IRT.
