Title: Development Associate

Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

Compensation: $70,000 DOE, plus employer-paid health and dental insurance, 401K, and generous PTO (paid time off)

Boston Court Pasadena is a nonprofit performing arts center primarily dedicated to developing and producing adventurous new work, significantly re-envisioned classics, and nurturing both emerging and established artists across all art forms. Boston Court is also the home of an annual New Play Reading Festival, an upcoming new composer initiative, multiple community events and partnerships, as well as rotating visual art exhibits. Boston Court theatre productions have been seen in New York City, Boston, Houston, and Malibu, and have won countless Ovation Awards, Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards, American Theatre Wing Awards, and many others.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the leadership of and in collaboration with the Managing Director, the Development Manager will be the primary staff member responsible for implementing comprehensive fundraising plans with the goals of deepening relationships with and investment by existing donors, building a major gifts pipeline, cultivating institutional funders, and working with leadership to increase contributed revenue.  The ideal candidate will have meaningful experience in fundraising with particular experience in individual giving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Create and implement annual fundraising and stewardship plans in partnership with the managing director and development committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Research new donors and grant opportunities
  • Work with Managing Director to develop and manage individual donor campaigns, including acquiring new donors, increasing donor renewal and upgrade rates, and building a pipeline for major gifts
  • Maintain donor relationships through correspondence, calls, gatherings, etc.
  • Prepare and oversee all direct mail fundraising campaigns
  • Review all grant applications, reports, and LOI’s.
  • Develop and execute all fundraising and stewardship events, in concert with both board and staff, including the annual gala and donor events
  • Ensure that all contributors receive proper acknowledgement and recognition, including accurate representation in all printed and virtual materials. This includes individual donors as well as foundation and government funders.
  • Track pledges from all institutions, donors, and Board gifts
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Boston Court Development Committee, coordinate meetings,  agendas, and help focus the committee on measurable and timely development goals.
  • Assist Managing Director with identification and cultivation of potential individual, corporate, and foundation gift prospects
  • Work with the managing director to track and reconcile contributed revenue, and prepare appropriate reports tracking progress against goals as needed for the Board.
  • Along with all Boston Court team members, share in staffing performances and other public functions, serving as a representative of the organization
  • Participate in the broader Pasadena, Los Angeles, and arts communities, representing the organization and developing relationships to benefit the organization
  • Maintain donors in CRM / create fundraising campaigns as well as update and review data in TRG database, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be a personable and dynamic self-starter with the following qualifications:

  • Meaningful experience working in development, preferably with a nonprofit cultural and/or arts organization
  • Strong writing skills, and professional experience writing letters, proposals, and donor communications
  • Proven experience increasing revenue
  • Fluency with computers and standard software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with database and CRM systems
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as necessary
  • Preferred: Knowledge of the Los Angeles arts and culture community
