ArtStream Inc. is currently looking for a full-time Associate Artistic Director.

Through collaborative performance and lifelong learning opportunities, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities gain the skills and confidence to engage with the world.

 

Organization & Job Summary:

ArtStream is a nonprofit that provides performing arts opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area. ArtStream is currently in an innovation and growth phase, ideal candidates are able to flourish in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

The Associate Artistic Director  fulfills a key position reporting and collaborating directly to the Executive Artistic Director. The position will have a hands-on role in curriculum building and program evaluation, ensuring alignment with ArtStream’s values and mission.  This is a hybrid position requiring some in-person meetings, workshops and attendance at ArtStream activities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Artistic and Educational Leadership:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Artistic Director to shape the artistic vision and educational strategy of ArtStream programs.
  • Design and evaluate innovative curriculum tailored for individuals with IDD in performing arts workshops, classes, and productions.
  • Supervise and mentor teaching artists and program staff, ensuring high-quality, inclusive, and accessible programming.
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting with the Executive Artistic Director and leadership team.

Program Development and Evaluation

  • Evaluate current programs and recommend enhancements to improve participant outcomes and engagement.
  • Develop and implement assessment tools to measure program success and participant growth.
  • Stay informed of best practices and emerging trends in arts education and IDD community engagement.
  • Recruiting and training teaching artists, designers, and mentor volunteers.

 

Grant Management and Fundraising:

  • Research and write compelling grant proposals to support ArtStream’s programs and initiatives, working with Development Director.
  • Collaborate with staff to align grant applications and reporting with program performance data and impact.
  • Cultivate relationships with new and existing donors, act as an ambassador for ArtStream in community, partnerships, and at events.
  • Assist in planning and executing events, including showcases, performances, and the annual gala.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, art-therapy, performing arts, or related field (or equivalent experience.)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in leadership in education and the performing arts.
  • Ability to create structure and process that supports short and long term goals.
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to ArtStream’s mission and values, with a passion for serving individuals with IDD.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check (following a conditional offer of employment)
  • Ability to work at events, in social settings, and be able to set-up or break down event materials as needed.

 

Work Environment: Some local travel is required. Hybrid position. 

 

Compensation: $60,000; pay is commensurate with experience.

Plus health benefits, Paid Time Off (PTO) and Sick Leave.
