The college invites applications for a full-time contract eligible teaching position in Technical Theatre. This position is a yearly two-semester (163-day) contract that begins in August 2026.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- M.F.A. in Technical Theatre. Must have the ability to promote a collaborative, team-based environment to fulfill artistic, scheduling, and resource needs.
This full-time faculty position will provide release time to the incumbent to perform as the Scenic Designer/Technical Director responsible for designing and coordinating all scenic activities (scenery construction, painting, and props) for departmental mainstage productions.
The successful candidate will:
- Demonstrate (1) a mastery of their specific discipline; (2) a deep commitment to the college mission of fostering student success, academic achievement, and persistence; (3) technological competence; and (4) the ability to use skills and
- strategies that engage students in ways that facilitate learning and prepare students for productive lives.
- Serve as Scenic Designer and Technical Director for two Mainstage theatrical productions and two Second Stage theatrical productions each year by helping faculty and staff achieve production and educational goals of the department.
- The technical director assigns, coordinates, and oversees production planning, operations, budgeting for scenic elements, scheduling of construction, and assists student workers.
- Scenic Designer and Technical Director duties include but are not limited to:
- Attending department meetings; attending and reporting at production and design meetings; securing lighting designers, sound designers and other contracted technical expertise as needed; maintaining equipment, inventory, and upkeep of shop and theatre spaces; design of scenic elements of all productions; preparation of design renderings and construction drawings; purchasing materials and supplies for productions; managing projects to ensure fulfillment of production vision, schedules, and deadlines; establishing and maintaining production budgets and expenditures; teaching courses in elements of design for theatre or related topics such as stagecraft, or special topics in theatre; advising technical theatre students; enrolling and assisting all students while ensuring proper training and adherence to safety procedures/standards.
- Employ teaching methods to accommodate various levels of academic preparation and incorporate appropriate and engaging technology across different modalities of instruction to facilitate student learning.
- Facilitate the needs of different learners across programs by implementing responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging students.
- Have a willingness to examine and adapt one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support students.
- Engage in student consultation, course preparation, review of course outlines, and preparation of course syllabi.
- Provide prompt and constructive support to students through regular office hours and timely feedback on assessments and activities; provide prompt feedback to student emails; adhere to all reporting deadlines such as grade processing, enrollment verification, syllabus submission, and textbook adoption.
- Participate in service to the college and its community; participate in curriculum development, the review and assessment of student learning outcomes, shared academic decision making, faculty organizations, and departmental course and program reviews.
- Engage in continued professional development, such as attending educational and disciplinary conferences.

This position may be eligible for additional compensation based on teaching load and supplemental assignments, as determined by the needs of the College.
