MadArts exists as a fluid space, whose setting changes with each project. Madarts hosts exhibitions, activations, and events that bridge traditional mediums with innovations interactive, Web3 and immersive media.

What will you be doing?

MadArts is in search of an Exhibition Preparator to work with the Director of Exhibitions, Curator(s) and a full time Carpentry staff to help facilitate the installation of physical and digital exhibitions, permanent installations, and offsite projects. This person will execute installation projects from start to finish as guided by the Director of Exhibitions and Head Technician.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with the Dir. of Exhibitions, Curators and Artists to install and maintain exhibitions;
• Prepare exhibition spaces for installation and deinstallation of projects;
• Work along side carpenters to insure the proper installation of fixtures, hardware, tech etc;
• Work between onsite and offsite projects when needed;
• Read and understand blueprints and plans as related to each project;
• Operated and maintained a vehicle used for the couriering of art;
• Managed and maintain on and off site storage of art and materials;
• Follow safety procedures and ensure the safe handling and transportation of works of art;
• Meet exhibition deadlines;
• Call for appropriate help if artwork is damaged;
• Observe and report any and all defects, deterioration, and wear on the facilities.

Skills needed:

• 2-5 years experience working in museums, galleries, art fairs or related spaces;
• Demonstrate a familiarity with various techniques and tools used to hang artwork(s);
• Have a familiarity with and implement best practices when handling, moving, packing and unpacking art;
• Demonstrate adequate carpentry skills for pedestal fabrication, crate construction, wall building and exhibition installation;
• Handle a variety of hand and power tools;
• Have a willingness to learn new skills in order to fabricate special projects;
• Be comfortable on ladders and scaffolding;
• Be able to lift up to 30 lbs and work in standing and sitting environments;
• Have reliable transportation and a valid drivers license;
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
• Ability to understand and apply Museum and Departmental policies and procedures;
• BFA or related degree not required but desirable;
• Ability to work flexible hours and adaptable to exhibition deadlines.

Marginal Job Functions:

• Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials;
• Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach overhead to gain access to equipment;
• Occasional exposure to wet and/or hot conditions;
• Must be able to lift any trade tools, material and equipment;
• Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs;
• May be required to work in confined areas to access equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is normally performed in an interior environment. Some work from time-to-time will be in an exterior environment with exposure to climatic conditions. Schedule will include non-traditional hours, evenings, and weekends.
This is a full time position with benefits.

Base compensation: 50K
