St. George’s Independent School seeks a passionate, entrepreneurial, and hard-working individual who is energized by work with families to serve as Middle and Upper School Director of Theater Arts, beginning August 2017. Duration: Annual Letter of Agreement

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education or theater arts; master’s degree in teaching of theater and acting preferred

The successful candidate will possess skills and experience that would include the ability to:
• lead the theater program toward an engaged level of enthusiasm, participation, and excellence
• manage curricular and classroom responsibilities for middle and upper school students in age-appropriate dramatic reading and theatre courses involving:
o teaching acting principles and techniques
o teaching enunciation, diction, voice development, and dialects; using voice exercises, speech drills, explanation, lectures, and improvisation
o discussing and demonstrating vocal and body expression to develop acting styles, character development, and personality projection
o developing the leadership of a national theater honor society chapter
• produce several student plays annually for the school community that take place outside of school hours including:
o leading a team including a production assistant, seasonally hired production personnel, music and vocal coaches, a student stagecraft team, and parent volunteers
o performing casting, blocking, and directing as needed
o ordering scripts and coordinating stage production, including sets, props, and costumes
o managing productions, including tech, lighting, sound and backstage management through assignment of non-performing students to backstage production tasks, such as constructing, painting, and moving scenery and operating stage, light, and sound equipment
o directing students and volunteers involved in constructing, painting, and lighting scenery
o teaching elements of stagecraft, stage makeup, costume craft, play writing, or play direction.

Physical Requirements: Regularly sit, turn, bend, reach, walk, talk, hear, and interact with campus visitors as well as others who telephone. Must have the ability to understand and present materials and communicate with constituents and co-workers in a harmonious manner.
