Longwood University, a historic public liberal arts institution and host of the 2016 U.S. Vice Presidential Debate, invites candidates to apply for Assistant Professor as a Technical Director for the Theatre Program. The position is to begin August 2017.

The Department of Theatre, Art, Graphic & Animation Design at Longwood University in Farmville, VA is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor position as a Technical Director for the Theatre Program. Primary teaching abilities would include the ability to teach a variety of courses such as Issues in Theatre, Technical Theatre, Theatre Production, Stage Properties, Stage Management, and serve as Technical Director for a four show main stage season. Qualifications include an M.F.A. in Technical Theatre and experience in professional and educational theatre. Experience with Vector works (preferred) or AutoCAD, MIG and /or TIG welding, wood and metal construction techniques, automated scenery, theatrical engineering, managing and executing properties, sound, and theatrical rigging strongly preferred. Must have effective organization, collaborative, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with students of differing skill levels. Capable of working at heights and can perform occasional heavy lifting. Duties include management of the Scene Shop, supervision of work-study and theatre production students, mentoring student technicians and props artisans, set construction with weekend and evening work sessions as needed, maintenance of facility and equipment, budgeting and purchasing of equipment and supplies; create and maintain daily operation schedules and production calendar for all department productions, provide technical support for student productions, and compliance with safe practices and workplace regulations.
