Located 45 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul in the scenic St. Croix River Valley, Franconia Sculpture Park is a nonprofit arts organization operating a 43-acre sculpture park, renowned artist residency program, and expansive educational initiatives.
Franconia welcomes over 150,000 visitors each year and provides an intriguing and exciting place to explore the intersection of art and nature in an outdoor museum celebrating sculpture, land art, and interdisciplinary work.
On September 26, 2020, Franconia Sculpture Park is unveiling Franconia Commons after the completion of a five-year capital campaign.
This Visitor Center, free community space, and gateway to the park includes a Gallery, Gift Shop, Cafe, and Center for Learning.
Franconia Sculpture Park is looking for a dynamic individual to join our team. The Visitor Services & Membership Director will oversee the welcoming of all visitors and facilitating the visitor experience, acting as an “ambassador for Franconia” by engaging daily with our visitors and guests. Working in collaboration with the Executive Director, this person is responsible for several sources of earned income including the Cafe, gift shop, and on-site donations, setting and meeting department income goals. S/he/they will supervise interns and volunteers and establish the highest level of customer service by helping our diverse visitorship navigate the grounds and engage with artists and artworks. They will help launch a free membership program that will serve as an important vehicle for capturing audiences’ demographic information but more importantly to learn who is coming, why they are coming, the reasons they support Franconia through volunteer hours or donations, and how we can better retain and attract visitors. We have a modest goal of enrolling 150 members by the end of 2020, and 500 new members in 2021.
This person will be responsible for: maintaining member data in CRM and successfully launching Franconia’s first membership program with unique perks; training front-of-park volunteers, staff, artists and board to speak to Franconia’s mission and programs; using targeted social media to increase exposure of the park and programs; cultivating members and building relationships; hosting annual Members Only event.
The Visitor Services & Membership Director will work closely with Franconia’s Executive Director to develop, support, and execute all membership initiatives by building relationships with individual donors, local businesses, and key constituents. This position will be primarily responsible for the development and execution of Franconia’s membership plan and ensuring the quality maintenance of all membership database records.
Preferred candidates have professional experience working in visitor services, membership, or development at an arts nonprofit or museum. This person will work closely with the Executive Director and as part of a small team of eight staff members who together support the programs of Franconia.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
● Develop and Execute Membership Program in Salesforce/Veevart:
Will be responsible for quality control on all membership databases and use this data to conduct outreach and generate reports.
● Relationship Management and Stewardship:
Build on existing relationships and improve individual member retention through the development and execution of a meaningful stewardship program. Maintain new member portfolio and leverage the Executive Director and board members in these efforts. Collaborate with key staff to host members on high quality, meaningful, and engaging site visits with the goal of increasing revenue. Find creative and innovative ways to increase revenue with new and existing partners.
● Prospecting and Cultivation:
Oversee prospecting and individual member research.Implement cultivation techniques to inspire prospective supporters to become members and donors, setting membership targets for first and second years of program launch.
● Membership Operations:
Oversee correspondence and reports as related to member revenue goals. Assist the operations and accounting staff to reconcile accounting and revenue receipts.
● Special Events:
Oversee all aspects of member events including: logistics; communications; presentations; etc. to advance fundraising and community awareness.
● Visitor Services:
Train front-of-line staff and volunteers on messaging and enrollment strategies; act as “face” of organization for visitors to Franconia Commons.
● Volunteer Management:
Aid in recruitment strategies for volunteers, developing a strong volunteer base to assist with front desk, visitor services, and gift shop management.
A successful candidate will be an experienced and energetic non-profit manager with strong customer service and experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a museum or garden setting.
● A decisive and personable individual with the ability to handle challenging situations with calm and grace while affirming institutional policies and procedures.
● Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and communication skills essential.
● Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, with a minimum of 3 years of experience working in visitor services, customer service, membership, volunteer management or development, preferably at a nonprofit arts organization or museum.
● Previous experience with membership programs and special events is strongly preferred.
● Demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs and donor database software; SalesForce and Veevart experience a plus.
● General knowledge of international contemporary art world.
● Demonstrated experience engaging with diverse communities of all ages and backgrounds.
● Self-starter with ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; ability to delegate when needed.
● Team player with a good sense of humor a must.
