Part-Time Visiting Lecturer

Harvard University, Theater, Dance & Media  Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

Harvard University - job posting

Job Description

The Harvard University Committee on Degrees in Theater, Dance & Media is seeking one-semester undergraduate course proposals for any fall or spring semester in the academic years from 2019-2021.

Theater, Dance & Media is one of Harvard’s newest concentrations. Our intention is to invite Harvard undergraduates to become art makers and researchers ranging across theater, dance, and performance-based media. Using Harvard’s immense resources, from the Harvard Theatre Collection to the Dance Center and the American Repertory Theater, our students will learn to hone their creative instincts, work collaboratively in small groups, and participate in professional departmental productions. Our courses range from physical movement, directing and design to creative writing, aesthetics, performance scholarship and digital humanities and emphasize the combination of theory, history and practice. Theater, Dance & Media provides interdisciplinary experiences in storytelling, performance and media to Harvard’s liberal arts students, preparing them for careers inside and outside the arts.

We welcome proposals on any topic in theater, performance, multimedia, dance, and related arts and practices.  However, we are especially interested in proposals that incorporate performance as a mode of embodied learning within the curriculum and address one of the following:

  • highlight non-traditional theater;
  • integrate new media technologies into theater and dance performance;
  • combine history, theory, and practice in innovative ways;
  • focus on non-Western theater practices;
  • focus on physical theater and movement for the stage;
  • design for theater, performance and interactive installations;
  • theater and civic engagement

Compensation based on rank / experience.

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy and pregnancy-related conditions or any other characteristic protected by law.

Deadline: Dec. 1, 2018
