Contract Visiting Lecturer in Theater, Dance Media
CALL FOR COURSE PROPOSALS FOR 2020-2022
Theater, Dance & Media
The Harvard University Committee on Theater, Dance & Media is seeking one-semester undergraduate course proposals for any fall or spring semester in the academic years from 2020- 2022.
We welcome proposals that incorporate performance research as a mode of learning within the curriculum and that consider the political and ethical implications of performance practices and production. We seek courses that focus on one or more of the following categories:
- composing lyrics, music and book for new American musicals;
- collaborative composition for time-based performance;
- intercultural, global, non-US, or non-traditional performance practices and traditions;
- lighting, scenic, and environmental design for dance, site-specific installation, theater, and performance.
Theater, Dance & Media (TDM) is one of Harvard’s newest concentrations (majors). TDM students learn the fundamental components of theater, dance, and media by engaging with creative expressive arts and their socio-historical contexts. Designed as workshops, laboratories, and seminars, our courses range from dance, physical movement, acting, directing, design, new media and playwriting to aesthetics, performance scholarship, and the history of the performing arts. Using Harvard’s immense resources, from the Harvard Theatre Collection to the Harvard Dance Center and the American Repertory Theater, our students learn to hone their creative instincts, work collaboratively, and to develop critical and analytical perspectives on performance. TDM is invested in pedagogy that engages interdisciplinary perspectives, preparing Harvard’s liberal arts students for careers inside and outside the arts. For more information, please see our website: http://tdm.fas.harvard.edu/
Deadline: Dec. 1, 2019
