The Theatre Coordinator will plan, organize, and perform technical and clerical support activities on behalf of the Central Lakes Community Performing Arts Center (CLCPAC) and Central Lakes College. This includes coordination of various venues that support the Cultural Arts Series, Brainerd Community Theatre, and CLC. The Theatre Coordinator will display a flexible attitude, and will undertake varying roles as dictated by performance and rehearsal requirements in an educational setting. The Theatre Coordinator will supervise and maintain equipment and materials related to staging productions, supervise student employees, theatre lab students, and college/community volunteers.  He/she will assist in the safe operation and maintenance of theatre lighting, sound, rigging, video projection and related equipment and systems used in support of staging musical productions, drama productions, music concerts, speaking engagements, college assemblies, meetings, and related events. Provide technical advice on construction of production scenery, implement scenic and technical aspects of all theatre productions; and build scenery. He/she will assist with a variety of clerical office duties and advance preparation for facility usage. He/she will perform related additional duties as required and assigned, and assist needs of users and volunteers under direction of the Director of the Performing Arts Center.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in set design and construction, scenery preparation and rigging, and lighting.  A Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts with a concentration in Technical Theater may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Knowledge of professional procedures and practices used by theater arts and craft workers; occupational practices of the theater and its machinery and equipment, and the safety procedures involved in working with this machinery and equipment; standard practices used in the construction of stage scenery, furniture, and properties; conventional methods of mounting and rigging stage scenery; the characteristics of the common materials used in scenic construction (e.g. lumber, canvas, metal, plastics).
  • Ability to read working drawings, front elevations, floor plans, and shift plans; supervise skilled and unskilled helpers; perform routine maintenance and repair of stage lighting equipment; operate analogue and digital recording and playback equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Technical Theatre is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a diverse student/staff and clientele population in a positive, courteous and helpful manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload, and meet required deadlines, initiate and follow-up on activities independently without daily supervision.
  • Current skills in the usage of personal computers, including internet, e-mail, list-servs and other software
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, recognizing the wide range of student and staff problems and the necessary action needed to correct them.
  • Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, staff and the general public.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards of the theatre and its machinery and equipment sufficient to prevent or minimize potential accidents.
  • Ability to manage inventory of materials and supplies sufficient to ensure availability to meet demand.
  • Ability to maintain and operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
