The Gateway Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County is seeking a SHOP FOREMAN for its 2019 season. The Gateway Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County is a professional non-profit theater located roughly 55 miles east of New York City on Long Island in Bellport, NY. We work in two main theaters, the Gateway Playhouse, our 500 seat home theater, and the Patchogue Theater for the Performing Arts, the 1200 seat road house, where we present at least two shows in each season. Salary is negotiable, and on-site housing is provided. Gateway will also assist with transportation to and from its location in New York. The successful candidate will be experienced in high volume scenic production and fabrication. the Shop Foreman will be required to work with the technical director to interpret draftings and request resources and materials needed for projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Clean, organized, and efficient
• Working knowledge of MIG welding, working primarily with steel and aluminum.
• Knowledge of Theatrical building techniques.
• Ability to read working drawing and plans.
• Unique problem solving
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail
• Ability to safely lift 60+ pounds.
• Managerial or mentoring experience is a plus.
• Rigging/Flying (hemp and counter weight fly systems) a plus
Shop Foreman Job Responsibilities include:
-Loading in and changing over technical elements or each production
-Constructing scenery on an as needed basis.
-Constructing/refurbishing sets that have been rented for a production.
-Refurbishing sets for our rental department
-Loading, unloading, and cross loading of scenic trailers.
-Keeping the Scenic shop and work areas clean and safe.
-Works with TD and ATD to interpret draftings and shop drawings
-Maintains inventory of materials, equipment, and consumables- keeps TD updated regularly
-Fabricates scenery, equipment, parts, components, and hardware as required by the needs of the production and facilities
-Supervises and instructs apprentices and interns in assisting with fabrication as assigned
