Full-Time Program Head: Writing for Diversity and Equity in Theater and Media
The School of Performing Arts (PPA) in Dyson College of Arts and Sciences at Pace University invites applications for an anticipated faculty position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) as founding Program Head of the new BA in Writing for Diversity and Equity in Theater and Media (WDE), to launch in September 2020. PPA is looking to fill this position no later than late December 2019.
The successful candidate will be responsible for working with internal Pace students initially while auditioning and recruiting the first entering class and instructors for inaugurating the program in September 2020.
The WDE program is dedicated to training a new generation of writers that embrace diversity and intersectionality through a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree program, with anticipated entering first year classes of up to 16 students. With a commitment to social justice and the call for more inclusive and representative content creation, the WDE program will actively recruit diverse writers of all backgrounds committed to expanding our collective cultural narrative, with particular emphasis on racial diversity. Students in the program will be exposed to a wide array of narrative platforms including theater, film, television, gaming and animation. Students will also study the history of under-represented groups and racial diversity in the United States and the pursuit of equity and diversity in the entertainment industry.
The WDE program will be the 9th innovative program in PPA, which currently offers highly ranked BFA Acting, BA Acting, BFA Acting for Film, Television, Voice Overs & Commercials, BFA Commercial Dance, BFA Production & Design for Stage & Screen, BA Directing, BFA Musical Theater, and BA Stage Management degrees. PPA has strong connections to the entertainment industry and offers students learning and performance/creative opportunities in New York and Los Angeles, internships and networking opportunities in their field, and master classes by renowned professionals.
The ideal candidate will have a commitment to the program’s diversity and equity mission as well as experience as a professional writer in theater and/or media and as a teacher of writing in higher education. Candidates should also demonstrate leadership and administrative skills and the ability to develop and sustain partnerships and educational opportunities for our students in both New York and Los Angeles.
Degree in writing or substantial professional experience as well as higher education teaching experience in writing. Previous leadership position in higher education setting and earned graduate degree are a plus.
