Production Manager

Job Description
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Production Manager plays a key role in the planning and organization of all Music Theater Works productions and projects, the strategizing of design and fabrication processes, and the communications processes for all MTW productions and departmental initiatives. The PM coordinates the run of show schedules and activities in all MTW venues, and directly supervises all independent contractors involved in the running of productions.
The Production Manager works closely with the Producing Artistic Director and North Shore Center Staff to develop and implement production details and oversight.
Some Duties will include:
- Hiring Technical Staff for all productions, including negotiating contracts
- Building a team atmosphere and structure to encourage behaviors among staff members that exemplify respect and inclusion
- Seeking and hiring Designers 4-6 weeks in advance of production
- Create and maintain production calendar for all artistic staff, technicians and design team members
- Create detailed rehearsal schedules
- Create and maintain budgets for all productions
- Extensive knowledge of technical theater, including lighting, sound, projections, rigging, set, prop, and costume construction, and special effects
- Bid out scenic and costume designs to shops
- Coordinate stock pulls from storage-costume & props
- Ensures that the resources and support available to production departments are clearly communicated and managed to achieve the artistic vision and MTW standards
- Supports special events which occur both on and off stage and involve MTW staff
- Work with Union Orchestra and Union contractor to budget and hire musicians
- Schedule and Lead Load-in and Technical rehearsal process, including strike
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater, including nights and weekends
- Demonstrated creative judgment, excellent problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability and willingness to exercise professional courtesy and discretion at all times, cultivate a positive work environment, and maintain confidentiality as required
- Adaptability to changing priorities, deadlines and the ability to manage numerous concurrent projects
- Ability to read a script and assess requirements in regard to staffing, budgeting and design as part of show research and season planning
- Participate in budgeting staff by staying up to date on competitive wages & union scales
Workshop- 5- One week camps and 1- three week camp:
- Contract teaching team – manager, director, music
- Proof and put up postings for counselors & staff (teens only)
- Contract staff – conducting background checks on anyone working directly with the kids
- Coordinate with stage manager/director/ prop / costume needs and pull from storage or source affordable options
- Staff regular performances – load in boxes, props, signage, work concessions & strike
Wilmette Space Rental and Maintenance:
- Book on calendar – work out dates around MTW programming
- Negotiate rates – event vs. non-profit vs. a recurring class vs. friend & family discount
- Create and manage rental agreements
- Follow up to secure Certificate of insurance and payment prior to engagement
- Maintain rehearsal space
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to work in a variety of environments including but not limited to construction shops, stages, catwalks, grids, warehoused, loading docks, outdoors.
- Work environment may be noisy or in low light
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer
Preferred:
- Ability to read and navigate CAD drawings of design and theater architecture
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Working knowledge of IATSE, USA, and AEA, collective bargaining agreements
- 3-5 years of professional production management, stage management, or equivalent leadership experience
Full-Time Salaried plus Individual Benefits- $43,000
