Musical Theatre Dance Faculty

The Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts Theatre Department in West Palm Beach, Florida is seeking a full-time teacher of musical theatre dance to begin August 2023.

The award winning Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts is a public magnet arts high school serving Palm Beach County, Florida and takes pride in educating the next generation of artists. DSOA is one of the most unique schools in the United States. Each year this audition and portfolio admission-based public school brings together a class of amazingly diverse, highly motivated, and driven students. DSOA’s curriculum is a hybrid, where high-level academics and arts intersect.

Duties include: 

• Teach five classes, grades 9-12, in musical theatre dance technique in varying styles at all levels from beginner to advanced
• Choreograph and/or direct and choreograph department productions and showcases
• Choreograph and coach college audition submissions
• Adjudicate annual jury exams and incoming student admission auditions
• Mentor, encourage, and nurture young talent at varying stages of development
• Work collaboratively with faculty in production and curriculum processes
• Prepare students for the rigorous college admissions process

Desired Qualifications: 

• Degree in musical theatre or dance; extensive experience in professional theatre
• Significant experience training well-rounded musical theatre students; high school teaching preferred
• Previous experience teaching ballet and dance technique for all levels
• Previous experience teaching musical theatre, tap, jazz, and hip hop
• Comprehensive knowledge of musical theatre history and musical theatre dance repertoire
• Strong understanding of current trends in the theatre industry and college audition process
• Ability and desire to work with teenagers in a fast-paced and rigorous theatre program
• Bonus specialties in directing, stage management, arts administration, etc.
