KTC Technical Director

The Department of Dramatic Art at UNC Chapel Hill seeks a Technical Director (TD) for the Kenan Theatre Company), the undergraduate production arm.
The TD will lead all builds and supervise undergraduate production assistants for the Company.
The position also serves as the Facilities Manager for the Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art and is responsible for the maintenance of the building which houses the Department of Dramatic Art and PlayMakers Repertory Company.

Salary: $36,998 – $45,385

Minimum education:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree preferably in the Theatre Arts, and some experience that provides the employee with the functional work experiences needed to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred education:
Prefer 3-5 years relevant theatre experience beyond the undergraduate degree, experience working in an academic environment, and supervisory experience.  Experience working with Qlab and Photoshop preferred.

Required experience:
The position requires experience working with students; strong carpentry skills and proficiency in the operation of a wide variety of shop equipment; knowledge of safe work practices; knowledge of facilities management; demonstrated ability to prepare and manage budgets; the ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends; an even temperament; and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD or VectorWorks also required. The Technical Director must be able to work as part of a team and cordially with internal and external partners and all levels of management, faculty, staff, and students; complete multiple projects with competing deadlines; establish goals and workload priorities to meet established deadlines; and understand and be sensitive to a diverse academic environment.
