Full-Time Interim Theatre Technical Director (9-month position, with benefits)
COLGATE UNIVERSITY is seeking an interim Theatre Technical Director to begin August 30, 2018 and end no later than May 2019, while a search is conducted for the regular replacement. This interim appointment is administrative and benefit eligible.
The Technical Director (TD) is accountable for coordinating all scenic aspects for the theatre and other venues and manages the scenic, electrics, and sound/video equipment. The TD requests bids and purchases materials, creates construction drawings in consultation with designers, hires and supervises the Assistant Technical Director and executes all production elements with their team. Responsibilities include mentoring students and overseeing the planning, construction, installation and strike of scenery, electrics, and sound/video for all productions and events.
The TD supervises and manages the scene shop, advises and collaborates on scheduling production seasons, prepares work calls and production calendars, plans budgeting and purchasing for scenic materials and other technical considerations for current and future seasons. The TD will provide additional support, as needed, to other University productions under the auspice of the Department of Theater and mentorship as related to Design and Technology. The TD is responsible for safety oversight and guidance for all technical areas and venues and yearly building upgrades. Additionally, given experience, expertise, and interest, the TD may teach one or two courses within Design and Technology in consultation with the Chair.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater or a related field, although an MFA in Theater Technology/Design is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of technical direction in a professional setting.
The successful candidate should be knowledgeable in more than one area of production; have experience working with students and staff of varying skill sets; and be an engaged, dynamic collaborator with faculty and students.
